Senior Engineer, Core Network Engineering

The Senior Engineer, Core Network Engineering R&D will primarily be involved in utilizing research, development, management skills and business acumen to participate in creating solutions to drive business success. We’re looking for an SME who is passionate about working on wireless technologies.

Responsibilities

• Work on new and upcoming 4G and 5G wireless technology standards and protocols.
• Work closely with Boingo teams across the company, including, Engineering, Operations, Business Development and Marketing.
• Use skills to participate in design, implementation of Boingo LTE network infrastructure, protocols for both licensed and unlicensed technologies in general to meet business objectives.
• Contribute to the architecture and design of LTE IP networks within a lab environment and support field trials and commercial deployments.
• Participate in network planning, network architecture design and engineering as well as implementation/configuration and support.
• Participate in the evaluations of Core Network (MME, SGW, PGW) and common core elements (DRA/HSS/PCRF)
• Develop system level testing strategies against the EPC and Common Core elements.
• Participate in design and develop Analytics and Key Performance Indicators for the EPC and Subscriber Management systems to ensure the systems can be adequately monitored for threshold and predictive analytics.
• Document operation procedures for cross functional team.

Requirements

• 7 years Telecom industry experience with minimum 5 years wireless telecom experience. Wireless Service Provider experience preferred.
• BS or higher in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent knowledge.
• Working experience developing system requirements, interpreting network specifications and creating and implementing test plans and reports.
• TCP/IP networking (basic routing, analyzing network captures, etc.)
• Experience in SIP, SDP, RTP, HTTPS, GTP, TCP IP, TLS, DIAMETER
• Working knowledge of 3GPP LTE 4G standards and Packet Data Core Network Architectures
• Direct experience with eNodeB to S/P-GW and overall LTE procedures strongly preferred.
• Experience in Network Function Virtulization, Openstack, and python scripting.
• Experience is detailed debugging of call flows and LTE network operations and protocols.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively and work within a team.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge in Core Network KPI tracking and optimization procedures.
• Knowledge in Policy, charging and QoS enforcement in packet data networks.
• IMS networks and services including RCS or VoLTE
• Small cell Networks is highly preferred.
