Senior Electrical Engineer
THE PURPOSE:
The Engineers of the Embedded Software team will be within the Software Engineering Function. The team works with other teams to specify, develop and maintain the hardware electronic control units for the control systems of hyperloop – for safety critical real-time and other uses.
Ultimately, we will design reliable, scalable, real-time (or near-real time) applications that make Virgin Hyperloop One a reality. We are seeking candidates with various levels of experience to join our team of qualified, diverse
individuals at our Los Angeles facility.
THE ROLE:
- Deliver multiple safety critical ECUs, with a variety of CPU / FPGA hardware to meet strict environmental specifications.
- Work on bringing up and supporting embedded platforms for Embedded Electronics and other teams, with a focus on circuit design and PCB layout
- Work closely with Architecture and Software teams to ensure compatibility, certification standards, and safety standards are observed.
- Work with third party collaboration partners to use and set industry standards.
- Keep a customer focused mindset, prioritizing developer productivity and application uptime.
- Champion processes and procedures across the organization.
- Communicate, present, and defend opinions concerning development decisions in a productive and diplomatic fashion.
THE CANDIDATE:

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- BS or MS Degree in Computer Science or equivalent field.
- Experience of electronic control unit design and development.
- Experience of electronic circuit design and PCB design according to certification standards.
- Experience of embedded systems within Automotive, Rail, Robotics, or Aerospace.
- Experience in circuit design and analysis.
- Understanding of performance tools, metrics and benchmarks.
- Proven project experience in embedded platforms, hardware designs, and development.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with agile methodologies.
- Experience with ARM, x86 and a variety of FPGAs.
- Experience in packaging, EMC, and connector requirements.
- Experience utilizing a range of third party suppliers to outsource and all elements of hardware development.
- Experience managing hardware compute developments, or in similar role.
- Proven industry experience building and maintaining embedded platforms.
