Ad Hoc Labs is looking for a seasoned Senior DevOps Engineer to join us. We’re a distributed team looking to take our microservices and cloud platforms to the next level. You’ll be responsible for building, monitoring, and securing our environments. We aim to put in place systems that empower our engineers to do their best work.

Responsibilities

  • Manage AWS and Kubernetes infrastructure for highly-available microservices supporting real time APIs
  • Participation in 24x7 on-call rotation
  • Automate cloud infrastructure provisioning
  • Automate software builds for Scala, Ruby, Node.js, and Python based services
  • Support software delivery life cycles and ensure successful production deployments
  • Monitoring and incident response
  • Work embedded with developers and product folks as part of a fast paced, result oriented team

What we're looking for

  • Strong problem solving skills with a strong sense of urgency and ownership
  • The ability to be flexible and embrace learning new things on a regular basis
  • Experience with one or more build automation tools (Circle CI, AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins)
  • Experience with configuration management and infrastructure provisioning tools (Cloudformation, Serverless Framework, Terraform, Ansible)
  • In depth knowledge of AWS and/or Kubernetes
  • Self motivated with the ability to deliver projects given minimal supervision
  • Solid interpersonal skills and a commitment to customer service

Bonus points

  • Experience working for a small company and/or leading a small DevOps team
  • APM and logging (New Relic, Datadog, ELK)
  • Kubernetes tooling (Operators, Helm)
  • Secrets (AWS Secrets Manager, Vault)
  • Past experience as a software developer is a huge plusExperience working with RDBMS, especially PostgreSQL on RDS
  • Appreciation for thorough documentation, technical diagrams, change management, and project planning
  • Experience with back end services for mobile clients (IOS, Android)

Projects

  • Migrate Kubernetes from KOPS to EKS
  • AWS WAF implementation and potential integration with Platform
  • Kubernetes Autoscaling (vertical and horizontal)
  • CICD Improvements (Push button production deployments, Update Java runtimes, Container image vulnerability scanning)
  • Improve or replace local dev environments
  • Migrate from RabbitMQ to SQS
  • ETL improvements
