Job Summary: 

The R&D Lab Technician runs the prototype lab and works closely with the engineers (EE, ME, FW) to build debug and maintain prototype systems. Self management, aptitude with mechanical and electrical tools and instrumentation, soldering, crimping, harnessing, oscilloscopes, etc. is required. You’ll also prepare reports for the engineering staff so experience with MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint are required. Labview would be a plus. If you have a curious mind, like a fast pace, love solving problems and applying your skills, enjoy working with minimal supervision and bring a great sense of humor, then you’ll enjoy this environment. 

Job Duties: 

  • Assemble and test prototype electronic and mechanical assemblies (non-production)
  • Fabricate or modify parts using 3D printer
  • Document processes and directions, work independently, and follow-through on tasks to completion
  • Keep a proper lab notebook/documentation using Word, Excel, etc.
  • Keep lab space orderly and stocked, manage resources (tools, 3D printer, etc)
  • Coordinate/conduct testing
  • Coordinate materials ordering
  • Troubleshoot and document design issues
  • Maintain ESD lab
  • Maintain and Ensure personnel safety at all times


Experience and capabilities:

  • Read 2D assembly drawings and prints
  • Technical Soldering
  • Operate oscilloscopes, DVM, etc.
  • Safely operate hand and power tools

Requirements:

  • 2+ years building complex electronic and/or electro-mechanical products
  • 2 year technical degree in an electrical technology or relevant training
  • Soldering Certification
  • ESD Certification
  • Working knowledge of electronic testing and assembly equipment
  • Experience in installation and integration of assemblies and subassemblies at a system level
  • Demonstrated analytical, written, and oral communications skills
  • Experience interpreting wiring diagrams and electrical schematics

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a Team Member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to talk and hear. The Team Member is frequently required to sit, walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers, bend, stoop and reach with hands and arms. Reaching above shoulder heights, below the waist or lifting as required to file documents or store materials throughout the work day. The Team Member may occasionally lift or move office products and supplies up to 25 pounds. Proper lifting techniques required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The noise in the work environment is usually moderate. Other factors are:

  • Hectic, fast-paced with multi-level distractions
  • Professional, yet casual work environment
  • Office / Warehouse environment
  • Ability to work extended hours as required
