Quality Engineer
Position Overview
The Quality Engineer will be responsible for the company’s global product quality. As a core member of the NPI team, this person will be a part of team that supports the company’s growing need of product quality. This person will also be responsible for maintaining and improving product quality in sustaining products to minimize customer returns in a rapidly changing and high growth environment. This role includes introducing quality processes and standards, investigating and resolving reported quality issues, as well as working as a team in doing deep dives of investigations and evaluations. The role requires the right mix of development and implemention skills to build a foundation for growth, strong cross-functional collaboration skills and a ‘roll-up-your-sleeves’ attitude.
The Position
Key Responsibilities:
- Direct CM & supplier processes to ensure first pass quality during start-up and throughout product lifecycles
- Maintain and improve product quality by:
- Investigating customer complaints and address quality issues through root cause analysis, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and preparing and completing action plans
- Review manufacturer’s production reports and provide suggestions on process/product imporvement
- Influence suppliers to implement tests, screening/audit procedures and corrective actions where there may be little interest in cooperating
- Attract, maintain and develop strong quality professionals
- Input, verify, and validate data for RMA- (Return Material Authorization), CAPA- (Corrective Preventive Action), SCAR- (Supplier Corrective Action Request), & NPI- (New Product Introduction) in various data management systems
Participate in development of new product quality plans and test plans
The Person
The candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelors of Science degree
- 3 years recent quality engineering or manufacturing engineering experience (preferably in LED, lighting or consumer electronics)
- Basic knowledge of quality principles – PDCA, Fishbone, RCCA, CAPA, 5 Whys, 8D
- Understanding of basic quality terms includes, but not limited to: FMEA, control plans, Cp/CpK, etc.
- Understanding of ISO9000 and AS9100 Quality Management Systems (QMS)
- Familiarity with safety compliance application process (UL, CE, CCC, etc.) and energy efficiency standards (i.e. Energy Star)
- Proven ability to apply measurement, analysis and CI tools to create lasting operational improvements
- Able to communicate cross-functionally at all levels of the business - internally and externally
- Strong verbal and written communication skills

- Self-managed and motivated to succeed
- Able to travel up to 15% of the time to resolve quality issues
- Six-Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt is a plus
- Basic understanding of GD&T, metrology, and measurement tool usage
