Principal Engineer, Ads Architecture

As an Architect, working with and across Weedmaps Business Units, you will be empowered to contribute to our products, direction, and outcomes in meaningful ways. The Ads team is fundamental to improving our revenue through improvements to our new and existing performance based ads solutions.You will be working closely with cross-functional partners in Revenue, Design, Marketing, Legal, Data Engineering, and Data Analytics to help pioneer Ad products at Weedmaps.

The impact you'll make:

  • Take ownership of the Ads Platform Architecture, leading and guiding its direction 
  • Be the trusted architectural subject matter expert of the Ads Platform
  • Manage the backlog and champion the technical tradeoffs and enablers that support the product roadmap
  • Work cross functionally with partners in Product, Design, Revenue, Engineering, Quality, and Program Management to drive the future vision of the Business Unit and prioritize the technical needs and enables along with the Business asks
  • Drive direction and give visibility into the Technical Implementation of the Ads Platform from a tactical to strategic level
  • Drive technical discussion with the squads to come to consensus on the correct iterative approach to improve the system in line with the product vision
  • Own the technical maturity of the Business Unit and ensure appropriate investment into non-functional requirements iteratively (i.e. monitoring, alerting, telemetry, build/release pipeline, performance, etc).
  • Manage a backlog of Technical Debt; work with Product to prioritize and champion technical requirements against the product vision.
  • Work cross Weedmaps Business Units and with 3rd party vendors as a subject matter expert in the Ads Platform integration points
  • Own technical assessment and evaluations of 3rd party solutions and provide recommendations based on the technical, business and product needs as they associate to the cost
  • Being in an on-call rotation with other engineers in the Business Unit to triage and solve LiveOps Emergencies
  • Provide guidance, mentorship and technical expertise to development leads across multiple squads.
  • Help leverage and align engineering leaders to build a community where they can share ideas, leverage existing technologies and solutions to maximize the business value and adopt cutting-edge technologies.
  • Effectively articulate how the team can realize business value through technology.
  • Serve as the hands-on process owner to translate enterprise vision into enabling architectural roadmaps and communicate architectural decisions, plans, goals, and strategies to gain organizational commitment
  • Assess technical project risks and defines risk mitigation strategies and approaches with the project leadership team
  • Analyze and provide feedback on product strategy
  • Ensure that we are continuously raising our standard of engineering excellence
  • Drive through ambiguity and help create clarity for engineers 

What you've accomplished:

  • Track record of building and scaling Ad platforms
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and/or graphical formats.
  • Effective communication skills, a positive attitude, and ability to give and receive constructive feedback in an agile environment
  • Fluency using Git in a team environment
  • 8+ years of Software Development Leadership role in a Startup and/or Mid-sized company
  • 3+ years of Architect or equivalent technical leadership experience
  • Prior Ad Tech and/or Business experience
