The current auto manufacturing system is economically and environmentally broken. Divergent invented a manufacturing system that combines software, additive manufacturing, and assembly technologies to radically reduce the material, energy, time and capital required to design and build vehicles. This will transform the automotive industry from capital intensive to innovation intensive while dramatically reducing the lifecycle environmental impact of vehicles. Position: Powertrain Design Engineer 

Divergent is seeking and experienced and motivated engineer to support the next generation of industry-leading powertrain development. We’re committed to transforming the vehicle powertrain systems away from traditional configurations to higher performance, higher power density, higher efficiency solutions to complement the low mass of the vehicle. To do this, we need a forward-looking and innovative engineer who will help shape the future of automotive and aerospace powertrains.

What You’ll Do:

•Refine, generate and execute new technical solutions for powertrain structures to support our new internal vehicle programs, and joint development efforts with other OEMs. 

•Provide hands-on technical leadership for advanced component or technology development. 

•Develop engineering designs and oversee design analysis of existing programs. 

•Develop and coordinate Powertrain Engineering designs and systems with manufacturing, analysis, other vehicle subsystems, vehicle development, safety, customers, and other functions.

•Take responsibility for powertrain components and compliance to Divergent technical and quality standards throughout the vehicle’s life cycle.

•Manage production engineering design release of powertrain components and subsystems. 

•Communicate information to and from internal and external customer organizations.

•Balance business imperatives, including but not limited to cost, mass, complexity, and timing. 

•Work cross-functionally to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and support prototype and production build activities. 

Who You Are:

•You are passionate about sustainability and cleantech

•You’re comfortable in a fast-paced startup

•Possess a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

•Have experience developing designing high performance systems including hardware design and analysis, procurement/manufacturing and testing.

•5+ years of consistently and successfully shipping robust and maintainable commercial products through a full cycle development process 

•Proven abilities of workingin a small team interfacing with engineering and manufacturing groups to understand system designs and the associated constraints.

Extras:

•MS in Mechanical Engineering or similar with theoretical grounding in mechanical design and analysis.

•High performance vehicle experience, including rocketry/aerospace or motorsport (including FSAE or Formula Student)

•Knowledge of vehicle systems and requirements
