WHY WE NEED YOU

The Power Electronics division is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, building, and testing the electrical power components in the Hyperloop system. These components include variable frequency drives for propulsion and levitation, energy storage systems, charging systems, wiring and cable assemblies, and the associated control hardware and control algorithms. We are seeking a Power Electronics Engineer at our Los Angeles facility to join our diverse, experienced team in designing power electronics and battery systems for one of the most challenging transportation applications on Earth. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Take the ownership in the development of gate drive board for ALL power converters. Lead the effort in testing the power stage of 4 different power converters at component, module, assembly and system level; Specifically, this position is responsible for,

  • Identify the requirements of gate drive functions; provide specification documents for all gate drive designs and design documents for gate drive designs
  • Design PCB schematics for signal conditioning, power supply, and analog/digital control circuitries using Altium Designer
  • Specify PCB components, develop PCB layout design and manufacturing drawings.
  • Manage all PCB-related documentation and materials, such as, design release, BOM, prototype units, track the status of all in house PCBs (# of units, versions, updates, failure modes, etc)
  • Conduct failure mode analysis, including FMEA, WCA, FTA, as needed for functions
  • Support testing of electrical and control systems
  • Write gate drive test requirement document
  • Conduct gate drive test, trouble shoot, failure analysis, mitigation
  • Provide test report documents

WHAT YOU'VE DONE

Candidates must have product development experience in high power electronics converters, specifically, 

  • Hands-on experience in electronics circuit design, analysis, simulation, worst case analysis, failure mode analysis, reliability/life time analysis
  • Hands-on experience with gate driver and IGBT testing 
  • Solid knowledge of power converter components, e.g., IGBTs, capacitors, magnetics, busbars, sensors
  • Solid experience of working in a high voltage and high power engineering lab environment
  • Solid experience in using high voltage and high power test related equipment and instruments

NICE TO HAVE

Experience working with:

  • Altium PCB software, SPICE
  • Power converter tests with inductive load
  • Variable speed drive tests
