Position Overview

The NPI Project Engineer, within the Production Control Department, will be responsible for the successful initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, controlling and closure of a New Product Introduction through the manufacturing planning process. The successful candidate must have a combination of skills including an ability to ask penetrating questions, root out and mitigate risk, detect unstated assumptions and resolve conflicts, as well as manage a product lifecycle. This candidate will interface with Program Managers, Engineering, Manufacturing, and other groups under the direction of the NPI manager to develop new product implementation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Interfaces directly with customer facing Program Managers, Production Planners, and other stakeholders to develop the lifecycle of a new product.
  • Direct the effort to define the project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Create and maintain project schedule and milestone tracking, serving as the gatekeeper to phased production ramp up.
  • Works with production planners, program managers, and data analysts to identify capacity and growth of new product and to drive cost reduction initiatives.
  • Apply multiple project management methods and skills to tailor the execution of projects with various scope and implementation plans
  • Develops, implements, monitors, and continuously improves new production processes, tooling, testing, sourcing, and process control while ensuring manufacturing capability and efficiency.
  • Applies lean manufacturing methodologies to design, layout, and workflow of new assembly lines and work cells for new products.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop a detailed project plan to monitor and track progress.
  • Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule and project costs.
  • Coordinate internal and third parties/vendors resources for the project tasks.
  • Ensure that all project deliveries are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
  • Ensure allocation and availability of resources.

Education and Experience

  • Requires a 4-year degree in Manufacturing Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of work experience in Product Development, New Product Introduction or Manufacturing Engineering. Additional experience may be substituted for part of the education requirement, or advanced degree can be substituted for experience.

The ideal candidate will possess these skills:

  • Experience working on New Product Introduction, design prototyping and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with NPI processes (process qualifications/validations, First Articles, Design of Experiments and engineering change requests, etc.).
  • Manufacturing and Process Engineering experience developing and implementing new manufacturing processes and supporting mid volume production (ECNs, BOMs, work instructions, equipment/tooling/fixture/test development, troubleshooting).
  • Experience with Robotics and Automation, Electronic, Safety, and/or Electromechanical testing.
  • Knowledge of plant layout design and assembly line layout design for efficient workflow.
  • Knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, PLM/PDM product management systems and 3D CAD Systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work on, manage and drive multiple projects at once, individually or with teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand engineering documentation and communicate technical data and specifications.
