Responsibilities

Solve the microwave engineering problems that others can't. Apply your creativity to develop novel test sets and push microwave instrumentation to its limits. Deliver the technical information to determine whether a payload launches by working in microwave laboratories and with microwave simulation tools. As consultants to our government customers, we immediately impact the direction and development of payloads for both small and large-satellites. Mitigate or exploit the effect of nonlinearities in microwave communication systems. Lead a long-term project to develop GaN microwave circuitry that will be placed into the next-generation satellites. This position can be filled as an Aerospace Senior Member of Technical Staff or Engineering Specialist

**This role is open to candidates willing and able to work at least 50% on-site in general laboratory conditions following corporate COVID-19 guidelines at our Aerospace El Segundo, CA location**

Key Functions

In this role you can expect to conduct OR learn to conduct the following Key Functions:

Solve microwave hardware anomalies by applying analytical and experimental studies
Develop MMIC designs in support of GaN device capability and reliability studies
Develop and apply advanced microwave measurement techniques
Develop cubesat payloads, microwave amplifiers, transmitters and receivers
Perform budget, circuit and full-wave simulations of microwave components, and systems
Document work products in briefings and/or technical reports to customers and colleagues
Participate in technical meetings with Aerospace internal and external customers, and external contractors
Work on a diverse set of projects. It is very important to be hands-on, willing to learn, comfortable in working in a dynamic environment of varying requirements and tasks, and interact with engineers of diverse backgrounds and expertise
Collaborate onsite with other engineers and technicians

Qualifications

Required

Master of Science degree from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering or another related discipline with 5 or more years of industry experience (Time spent obtaining a Ph.D. counts toward this)
Experience with ADS or Microwave Office, HFSS or CST, MATLAB, RF circuit layout, and instrument control
Experience using and evaluating data obtained from network and spectrum analyzes and oscilloscopes
Experience in microwave and analog circuitry, such as microwave transmission lines, filters, amplifiers, oscillators, and PLLs
Ability to handle a dynamic environment, open-ended tasks, and simultaneously support multiple tasks
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance with SCI / SSBI access which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

Required for consideration as an Engineering Specialist (In Addition)

Master of Science degree from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering or another related discipline with 8 or more years of industry experience (Time spent obtaining a Ph.D. counts toward this)
Ability to build RF hardware or systems
Experience with research or solution of engineering anomalies

Preferred

Ph.D. from an accredited university in Electrical Engineering or another related discipline
Experience with MMIC design and RF circuit layout principles
Experience with mitigation or exploitation of nonlinearities in microwave systems
Experience with high power microwave systems

Hardware Security Engineer

Intersection of research and hands-on development

To protect against bad actors threatening outer space, the hardware security team’s responsibilities run the gamut. Zantout’s work includes research and development, prototyping, and applying hardware assurance capabilities to national security space and terrestrial programs. Recently, her team built a security monitor that detects attacks on field-programmable gate arrays aboard spacecrafts and satellites.

I have the opportunity to work on technical and hands-on projects as well as policy-related tasks like standard development.

Promoting ownership and innovation from the start

Aerospace runs the only federally funded research and development center committed to the space enterprise. To continue modernizing space operations for internal, national and global customers, Tadjikov asks his team to investigate new technologies and projects, regardless of rank. Recent projects include Kubernetes space deployments, prototyping payloads and AI experimentation.

Most technical staff work on a few projects concurrently, which provides the chance for our employees to pursue new technologies and solve complex problems. It’s not uncommon to see junior staff leading large projects.
