Responsibilities
As the Mechanical Design Manager, you will lead teams to innovate next generation prototypes for space, airborne, and ground systems. This opportunity is for a Mechanical Design Manager to be a leader within Aerospace’s xLab, which develops prototypes, instruments, pathfinders, and demonstration systems to address the country's challenging problems.
We engage with potential customers during concept development, evolve to project definition, fabrication and execution, and support the transition of new technology and capability to industry partners. Our teams develop the advanced prototypes that will inform the next generation of ground and space-based sensors. The Mechanical Design Manager will lead the department through implementation of strategies, organizational improvements, and increased efficiencies.
Key Functions

Manage the day-to-day operation of the organization, balancing employee assignments, employee development and mentoring

Translate corporate strategy into achievable actions to be implemented by staff

Identify, implement, and manage operational process improvements

Provide engineering leadership to project teams to ensure performance and cost-effectiveness of new designs

Conducts staff performance reviews and recommends performance improvement, career development, salary and promotion actions

Ensure compliance with standards and policies of company and projects
Qualifications
Required
-
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, STEM field or equivalent
-
Typically 8+ years of relevant experience in an engineering role

Experience leading technical teams toward successful product delivery

Experience with mechanical design of spaceflight hardware

Experience with the process of designing, assembling, and testing of spaceflight hardware

Experience designing and forming technical solutions to electronic subsystems

This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.
Preferred

Master’s degree in STEM field or equivalent preferred

Relevant experience in a management role

Proficient with requirements and verification processes

Demonstrated success in implementing process improvements
