What’s the Role About:

We are looking for someone to join our Product Development team. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will design and deliver products according to specification. The right candidate will be highly creative with a deep understanding of manufacturing processes and materials. You will work with ID, EE, and Quality to create user focused reliable products that you manage throughout its lifecycle. In this role you utilize 3D modeling and rapid prototyping to creatively problem solve with an eye on manufacturability throughout the process. This role will be located in our Los Angeles, CA office, and as such we are only considering local candidates at this time. The hands-on position would suit a self-motivated, results-oriented individual who is comfortable in a casual, but fast paced, environment.

Some things you will be responsible for:

• Create CAD models, including part and assembly drawings, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and complex surfacing.
• Collaborate with 3rd party manufacturers to ensure products are manufactured to Puffco specifications.
• Supports product ideation phase through leading new technology assessments, supporting prototype testing, coordinating with other functions to ensure cohesive integration of all technologies, and identifying strategies to address any supply chain gaps.

Some qualifications and skills we need you to have:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering
• 5+ years of experience working in consumer product development
• Not afraid to get your hands dirty
• Strong understanding of the entire design process from concept to EOL
• Experience in designing consumer electronics
• Extensive CAD experience (SolidWorks required)
• Experience in thermal and structural analysis
• Experience in material selection
• Proven track record of working with EE to integrate complex electronics into small form factors
• Proven track record of working with ID to deliver beautiful and functional consumer products
• Expert working knowledge of fabrication processes and design constraints including plastic injection and metal fabrication.
• Excellent organizational, communication, presentation, and data analytics skills
• Track record of managing products through their entire life cycle
• Extensive experience working in a shop for mock-up and prototype fabrication
• Experience working with Asian suppliers including visits to manufacturing sites
• Creative problem-solving abilities
• Proven track record of delivering products on schedule that meet product and reliability specifications
• Track record of designing testing fixtures and processes to assure product and assembly quality.
• Experience working in a small fast paced environment
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to track and resolve issues across multiple programs simultaneously.
• Self-starter and ability to work independently.
