THE PURPOSE:

Develop and implement robust manufacturing processes for sub-systems of the Hyperloop vehicle power system. Sub-systems include electrical motors, propulsion, mag-lev, braking, controller drives, batteries, power storage & distribution systems. Processes include in-house manufacturing, contract manufacturing and vendor management.


THE ROLE:

  • Work daily with hardware design engineers to understand the most up-to-date product requirements and development status to ensure manufacturing development keeps pace.
  • Work with more experienced Manufacturing Engineers to provide and develop subject-matter expertise on the fabrication, assembly and install of Hyperloop sub-systems.
  • Work with a project coordinator to develop and maintain a project schedule for assigned projects.
  • Research, design, prototype and develop manufacturing processes ranging the entire Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) spectrum from preliminary “laboratory” testing to full-scale mass production.
  • Research & report total process costs for various design trades including raw materials, cycle time, outside vendors, capital & tooling investments, facility requirements, direct & indirect labor and logistics costs.
  • Gather & report sufficient detailed information for make vs. buy decisions.
  • Work directly with procurement to evaluate outside vendors for capability and supply chain suitability.
  • Write standard operation procedures, manuals and safety documentation for manufacturing processes individually or in conjunction with a technical writer.
  • Utilize 2D/3D CAD software to communicate concepts, design basic development fixtures, & equipment.
  • Draw manufacturing process layouts using standard 2D/3D CAD.
  • Develop & assist in writing manufacturing IP documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

THE CANDIDATE:

A new graduate or early-career engineer who has built mechanical, electrical, vehicles, complex hardware and/or structural assemblies and can prove it.

Someone able to chart a path forward through ambiguity and lack of definition. An eager individual who is willing to absorb knowledge from those with more experience and is willing to dive into the unknown with little direction. An articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent skills in the following: Communication, organization, spatial imagination, mechanical assembly and judgment. A self-directed individual who is a true team player.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated ability to think ahead and plan over multi-month time spans.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and manage multiple priorities & projects.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to make effective decisions and presentations on complex engineering topics.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or equivalent.
  • University hands-on experience building FSAE car, Baja car, space rover, satellite or similar projects.
  • 0-2+ years of professional experience in one or more of the following:
    • High volume manufacturing production
    • Manufacturing or integration of electrical vehicles
    • Manufacturing or integration of electrical motors
    • Manufacturing or integration of vehicle power storage & distribution systems
    • Manufacturing or integration of aerospace passenger or cargo vehicles
    • Manufacturing or integration of automotive vehicles
    • Manufacturing or integration of battery systems
    • Manufacturing or integration of mag-lev systems
    • Manufacturing or integration of permanent or electro-magnets
    • Manufacturing or integration of large complex machinery or assemblies
