WHY WE NEED YOU

 The Process Development team at Virgin Hyperloop (VH) brings our hyperloop vehicle from concept to reality. The Component Process Development Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of VH's hardware component R&D and prototype manufacturing development needs. This individual is expected to lead development of manufacturing processes, provide design for manufacturing feedback, execute prototype and low volume builds, manage staffing plans, fiscal planning, resource and project planning and reporting. This individual will be required to interact with engineering resources within the Core Engineering Organization and the Product Development and Systems Engineering organizations. This individual is also accountable for Process and Procedural Development including continuous improvement activities for the component Manufacturing Process Development team. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Solve difficult and complex engineering problems collaboratively with limited supervision alongside the Senior Manager
  • Work cross-functionally to define, plan, coordinate, and execute engineering-wide component R&D and low volume manufacturing process development and builds
  • Implement & continually improve effective hardware manufacturing strategies, methodologies and processes. Scope of component development includes electromagnetic systems, power electrics, thermal, and vehicle structures
  • Assist in the VH manufacturing strategy for hardware on the vehicle including make vs buy analyses, vendor selection, and long-term production planning
  • Work with the team to setup the build facility at the test site including incoming receiving processes, execution of component builds for the test vehicle, and acceptance test of all internal and external builds
  • Develop fiscal and project specific budget plans. Provide regular updates on spend, budgetary adjustments and justifications for new capital requirements
  • Work closely with the Engineering Project Management Office to ensure schedules, risks and issues are consistent and up to date
  • Grow the component process development team
  • Provide effective leadership and manage employee and organizational expectations
  • Perform other duties as assigned

WHAT YOU'VE DONE

  • Strong process development background for complex, new-concept technologies
  • Proven experience having taken designs with no historical reference on how to fabricate it & come up with a solution
  • Experience setting up build facilities for low-volume production
  • Capable of creating, managing, and executing prototype hardware builds in a fast-paced development environment
  • Solid understanding on manufacturing processes and fabrication methods
  • 2+ years of experience leading manufacturing projects in a leadership or manager role
  • 2+ years of managing multi-disciplined, high-performing teams
  • Experience with defining and implementing end of line and acceptance test programs
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues
  • Strong communication, presentation and technical writing skills

NICE TO HAVE

  • B.S. or advanced degree in Engineering or equivalent field
  • 6+ years of process development or manufacturing experience
  • Experience in manufacturing one or more of the following types of hardware
    • Electric motors or electromagnetic systems
    • Power electronics or high voltage electronics
    • High voltage battery packs
    • Thermal management systems
    • Automotive or aerospace structural frames
  • Six Sigma and Kaizen experience
  • Familiarity with automated manufacturing processes and equipment
  • Hands-on fabrication experience
