Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Experimental Systems Group (ESG) in Seal Beach, CA is seeking an energetic Lead Software Lab Sys Admin / Hardware Engineer who will lead a fast-paced lab team working complex technical challenges ensuring that the lab supports the various program stakeholder’s needs.

Position Overview:

As the Lead Software Lab Sys Admin / Hardware Engineer for this dynamic Boeing program, you will join a highly collaborative, close-knit multi-disciplinary team.  Leads work with customers to develop and document cutting edge complex electronic and electrical system requirements. Leads and coordinates work to analyze and translate requirements into system architecture, hardware and software designs and interface specifications. Leads work to test and validate to ensure system designs meet operational and functional requirements. Oversees the team that monitors supplier performance to ensure system integration and compliance with requirements. Solves problems concerning and provides other support of fielded hardware and software over the entire product life cycle. Researches technology advances for potential application to company business needs. Makes recommendations for technology investments.  Troubleshoots and resolves complex laboratory and test-related problems. Coordinates test laboratory activities, maintenance and repairs, and personnel training. Works under minimal direction.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Supports design and build-up of hardware configurations using inventoried and identified available equipment.

  • Diagnoses software lab-related hardware problems and fixes them or contacts the appropriate engineer to correct the problem.

  • Supports day-to-day software lab operations.

  • Conducts regular maintenance on lab equipment.

  • Installs and configures network equipment, including equipment using Linux, Unix, and Windows operating systems.

  • Documents lab environment, including build diagrams, standard maintenance procedures, etc.

  • Leads recurring meetings with vendor support teams to discuss maintenance items, security, and obsolescence

This position requires an active U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills and Experience):

  • Bachelor degree or higher from an accredited course of study in an engineering related discipline and seven (7) or more years of related experience is required.

  • System Administration experience of Linux/Unix or Windows platforms.

  • Experience installing/integrating hardware equipment/devices into a lab environment.

  • An active U.S. Security Clearance, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active).

  • Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed or updated within the past six years is required.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience utilizing lab test equipment, such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc.

  • Experience handling and/or working with ESD-sensitive hardware/equipment

  • Experience in electro-mechanical assembly skills like crimping, stripping, cable routing, and splicing

  • Experience with virtualization software and solutions (VMware)

  • Experience with Storage and Backup solutions

  • Self-motivation, taking initiative with minimal instruction

  • Problem solving and trouble shooting in a clear and concise manner

  • Strong communication skills

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
