WHY WE NEED YOU

The Power Electronics division is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, building, and testing the electrical power components in the Hyperloop system. These components include variable frequency drives for propulsion and levitation, energy storage systems, charging systems, wiring and cable assemblies, and the associated control hardware and control algorithms. We are seeking a Power Electronics Engineer at our Los Angeles facility to join our diverse, experienced team in designing power electronics and battery systems for one of the most challenging transportation applications on Earth. 

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Take the ownership of the design, build, integration, test, and validation of the power stage at assembly level for all power converters/inverters. Key components in the power stage include SiC power module, HV busbar assembly, HV bulk caps, gate drives, and HV input/output filters. Specifically, this position is responsible for,

  • Identify functional-level requirements of all related power converters/inverters
  • Conduct benchmarking studies on existing state of arts at both component level and assembly level in various technology areas
  • Provide system/assembly topology and design concepts
  • Conduct performance analysis, including steady state and transient behaviors
  • Evaluate safe margins on system stability, ripple voltage and current, transient voltage overshoot, and thermal
  • Identify system/assembly-level fault conditions, analyze failure modes, provide fault management strategies, and implement fault protection mechanism
  • Take responsibility for all power stage components - sourcing, build, inventory, and failure logging
  • Identify system/assembly level test requirements and provide test plan documents
  • Write test setup design documents, oversee and commission the test setup fixtures
  • Conduct/oversee all tests at system/assembly level
  • Lead trouble shooting and failure analysis efforts with temporary fix and long-term solutions
  • Provide test report documents
  • Provide improvement design (optimal design) based on test results

WHAT YOU'VE DONE

Candidates must have product development experience in high power electronics converters, specifically, 

  • Hands-on experience in HV power stage design, build, integration, and test
  • Hands-on experience in HV power stage test requirement, test plan, and test setup design
  • Solid knowledge of power converter components, e.g., IGBTs, capacitors, magnetics, busbars, sensors
  • Solid experience of working in a high voltage and high power engineering lab environment
  • Solid experience in using high voltage and high power test related equipment and instruments
