We’re looking for a Lead Acoustics Engineer to join our Team Snapchat! As a member of the Snaplab Hardware Engineering team, you will be responsible for the design, development, and innovation of camera hardware. Working from our headquarters in Los Angeles, CA, you’ll collaborate with Mechanical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, and Designers to deliver superior camera hardware and a best-in-class camera user experience.
What you’ll do:
- Design electrical/mechanical/acoustical architecture
- Design electrical interface for acoustic components
Acoustic component selection, integration, and characterization
Acoustic porting elements selection, integration, and characterization
Build acoustic simulations
Responsible for Finite-element/lumped-element modeling
Prototype acoustic systems
Electroacoustic component integration into system
Acoustic port placement on product
Authorship and ownership of product audio specifications and electroacoustic component specifications
Evaluation of audio algorithm solutions and cooperation with external teams on configuring and customizing algorithm solutions
Characterization and validation of acoustic systems
Frequency response and distortion response testing
Noise floor and wind noise characterization
Perceptual objective listening quality metrics
Consult on electroacoustic component production testing and production controls
Interface with engineering, product design, and industrial design teams to communicate critical-to-audio-functionality dimensions and parameters
Travel between Asia and Venice, CA
Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics or related field
3+ years working in the field of acoustics with a focus in consumer electronics products
Knowledge/familiarity with acoustic theory and practical application
Masters or PhD in engineering or physics
5+ years integrating speakers/microphones in consumer electronics products
5+ years prototyping acoustics systems
3+ years building acoustics simulations
Demonstrable experience building a new product from the ground up
Exposure to audio DSPs, acoustic testing (Soundcheck or Audio Precision), statistical analysis
A great communicator, self-starter, collaborator, and team player
