You will work directly with component design owners across the company to perform system architecture trade studies and help define system level requirements. In addition, you will support in developing future conceptual designs for the production Hyperloop system.

Our team is looking for multi-disciplinary generalists that have strong fundamental knowledge and intuition in the mechanical, electrical, embedded systems and controls domains. Experience with non-linear systems and optimization are a plus.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Development of system concepts and requirements as well as assessing technical impacts of business decisions
  • Work with the Business Strategy team to provide engineering input
  • Support and perform system trade studies through the development of mathematical models, and implementation of basic CAD modeling, MATLAB tools and excel models
  • Gather and work with responsible engineers from multiple disciplines to problem solve critical issues as needed in support of prototype and future vehicle development
  • Develop key metrics, use cases, and test cases for concepts for validation
  • Support the direction and/or down-selection of future production design concepts

WHAT YOU'VE DONE

  • Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Mechatronics, or equivalent discipline
  • > 5 years of experience in a Systems Engineering role, modeling and analyzing multi-disciplinary, non-linear systems
  • Proficiency in 2-3 of the following, with strong fundamentals in remaining disciplines
    • Mechanical Fundamentals (mechanics, materials, structures, mechanisms)
    • Dynamics, Kinematics and Controls (multi-body dynamics, kinematics, control system design, state estimation)
    • Manufacturing (processes, tolerancing, GD&T, DFM)
    • Fluid Mechanics (fundamentals, aerodynamics, compressible flow)
    • Electromagnetics and EM machines (EM fundamentals, motor modelling, actuator selection)
    • Thermodynamics and heat transfer
    • Embedded software (algorithms, RTOS, embedded code)
    • Electrical systems (batteries, circuits, power electronics and embedded hardware)
  • Ability to identify key metrics, summarize and present results through presentations and documentation
  • Must be able to lead a cross-functional team and provide guidance and direction to junior and senior engineers
  • Experience with the full product life cycle, having been responsible for a project from “cradle-to-grave”
  • Proficiency in CAD modelling packages and PLM software (NX preferred)

NICE TO HAVE

  • Master of Science in Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Mechatronics, or equivalent discipline
  • Experience performing non-linear system analysis and optimization
  • Experience with fail operation design, FMEA processes, FAA or Cenelec standards for transportation
  • Experience with FEA packages and performing finite element analysis, ANSYS preferred

WHY VIRGIN HYPERLOOP
