ringDNA is seeking an Engineering Lead that will report to the VP of Engineering and help manage and drive efforts on the Platform team. The Platform team is responsible for developing and supporting the company's multi-tenant SaaS application. This includes APIs to the front end web and mobile clients, integrations with 3rd party services such as Salesforece and Zoom, reporting amongst other backend application logic. The ideal candidate has a proven track record building large, scalable infrastructure, is a creative thinker, problem solver, teacher, learner, and is a fantastic leader of people.

What You'll Do

You will use your balance of technical expertise, leadership skills, and managerial experience to build core capabilities for ringDNA's platform and provide guidance and coaching to the platform team engineers.

You will quickly come up to speed on the existing architecture and implementation and will work with the VP/E to set technical direction, platform direction and allocate dev resources accordingly. You will drive continuous improvement while streamlining how we run development. This will involve building and maintaining strong relationships with connected areas of the business, ensuring the platform team are vital stakeholders within any changes that could impact scale, and/or site stability.

The leader in this role must demonstrate a strong focus on engineering practices, agile leadership and people management skills.

  • Deliver a stable, performant, and secure service that is measured against the company’s Service Level Agreement (SLA) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
  • Help lead the transformation from our legacy monolithic infrastructure to a modern, scalable, service-based system.
  • Lead standup meetings, story grooming, retrospectives, and other Agile process steps.
  • Help to protect, track, and prioritize the work of engineers on your team, balancing competing objectives such as tech debt, support requests, customer commitments, and product strategy work.
  • Drive the team to take ownership of application behaviors in the production environment, including configuration, troubleshooting, and issue detection.
  • Fully leverage our existing technology stacks, frameworks and third party services and propose new ones as needed.
  • Work successfully across teams (SRE, DevOps, QA, Product Management, Support, Success) by fostering positive, influential relationships.
  • Participate in RCAs and partner with the DevOps and Product Management teams to permanently fix issues.
  • Work with SRE to scale infrastructure from a technical and financial planning perspective.
  • Coach and mentor developers from a globally distributed team. Although you have a strong background in technology, your primary goal is to build a world-class, high-performing organization.
  • Champion teams company-wide to become best-in-class in cloud-based software development while promoting approaches that at their core greatly improve customer experience (OS abstraction, right-sized capacity and scalability, global caching, A/B testing and deployment, simplifying environments, and rapid recovery).
  • A strong people manager that will help coach and mentor developers using weekly one-on-ones and other collaboration tools and processes.

Who You Are 

  • 10+ years of Engineering implementation and architecture experience 
  • 5+ years managing teams; preferably mid-sized teams (~10-15) full-time and contractors in a globally distributed environments
  • Expertise in AWS and related services
  • Experience in architecting a 24/7/365 multi-tenant SaaS service
  • Expertise in designing, developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems
  • An excellent communicator, with the ability to simplify key messages, present compelling stories and promote technical and personal credibility with internal and external stakeholders
  • Track record of team building, including employee development with experience successfully coaching individuals to achieve goals
  • Passion for teamwork and collaboration, adaptability, communication, problem solving, customer focus, results, and innovation
  • Experience with Salesforce
