Job Description

Managers within Technology at Nordstrom help create an inspiring workplace where talented people are empowered to drive amazing customer experiences and business results. Through broad industry and practice knowledge and hands-on technical management experience, the Manager guides a team of professionals to execute strategy and tactics that deliver desired results.

 

As an Engineering Manager in the Inventory Deployment and Planning Organization, you will lead a multifaceted group of engineers who build and support business-critical Assortment Management and Inventory Deployment tools enabling billions of dollars of owned inventory to be procured, placed and sold throughout Nordstrom full-price and off-price businesses. The challenges include dealing with a rapidly evolving business, changing retail landscape, owning and delivering enablement of new business functionalities working with various partners in the company. Your work will directly impact both the topline and bottom-line of Nordstrom.

 

A day in the life…

  • Assist in enhancing department vision and strategies to support company goals and receive guidance from more senior leaders
  • Create training opportunities for team to learn the latest technologies and methodologies
  • Ensure team has the tools, resources, and information they need to be successful
  • Hire capable and motivated talent/teams that can deliver swiftly and predictably, adjusting in an agile fashion to deliver solutions aligned with business needs
  • Contribute to architecture, coding, test plans, project plans, deployment planning and operations to drive excellence and lead team towards its goals
  • Employ continuous improvement methodologies across own team (e.g. quantifies impacts customer first, waste elimination, increased productivity, iterates quickly, shorten feedback loop, experience creating relevant KPIs)

 

You own this if you have…

  • 5+ years of hands-on professional experience in delivering quality software, ideally across the full stack
  • A BA/BS in Computer Science or closely related degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2+ years leading teams (preferred)
  • Proficiency in more than 1 Object Oriented language such as Java, C#, C++ etc.
  • Proficiency in implementing best practices to deliver quality software like CD/CD, Alerting, Golden Signals, A/B Testing, Application Performance Monitoring, Behavior Driven Development/Test Driven Development (BDD/TDD), OKR’s
  • Proven Track record of shipping well-designed systems with hands-on experience ranging from designing and architecting products built for scale and performance
  • Experience in On Premise and Public Cloud Deployments would be a plus
  • Experience with agile software development, such as Scrum or Kanban
  • Experience working on full stack solutions preferred
  • Experience setting up processes to measure and manage a high performing team is preferred
