Job Description
NBC Universal has an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to become a Compute & Virtualization Infrastructure Engineer within the Operations & Technology (O&T) organization, with a specific focus on NBCU Broadcast infrastructure. O&T supports enterprise Technology, Broadcast and Production systems across the NBCU portfolio globally.
The Compute - Linux Engineer will partner with NBCU Technology leadership on day-to-day operations, including VM deployment, OS access tickets, Linux troubleshooting, ESXi configuration, SOX auditing, and performance troubleshooting. Working within an agile framework, updating tickets in Jira/SNOW, collaboration with cross-functional business leaders and partners, to provide "best in class" support for our NBCU local stations and global enterprise customers.
Salary: $120,000 - $140,000 USD
Team

  • Work on site at least 3 days a week at either the Denver Colorado, Englewood Cliffs New Jersey, or Los Angeles California locations
  • Develop & maintain engagements with Infrastructure Engineering, MSP resources, facility support, vendors, and Application teams to provide end-to-end delivery and support of appropriate infrastructure solutions.
  • Provide level 1/2 operational support for ticket completion, incident management and problem management resolution, including participation within a 24x7 on-call rotation
  • Demonstrate a dedication to building and maintaining a stable, high-performance technical environment

Required

  • Advanced knowledge for management/build/troubleshooting in any of CentOS, Oracle Linux, RHEL
  • Experience with OS monitoring and performance management
  • Experience troubleshooting with tool such as strace/dtrace/tcpdump
  • Experience performing tuning Linux Kernel
  • Experience with Compute hardware vendors including Cisco/HP/Cisco/Dell along with general data center facility wiring/fiber/connectivity requirements.
  • Working knowledge on networking protocols, routing, network topology
  • Ability to develop enterprise compute processes and technology standards
  • Manage and implement automated operational tasks to improve reliability and standards
  • Scripting experience. Ex: Python, Shell, PowerShell
  • Automation experience. EX: Ansible, CI/CD, GIT
  • Familiar with agile methodologies working in JIRA based sprint structures


Preferred

  • Familiar with Block/File/Object storage technologies.
  • Management/build/troubleshooting of virtualization/OS technologies, specifically VMware
  • Familiarity with backup technologies, recovery scenarios, high availability designs and solutions
  • Familiar with ServiceNow or other ITSM related toolsets


Client management

  • Partner with Business & client teams in building/articulating technical requirements and recommendations
  • Strong customer service skills and unfailing professionalism
  • Partner closely and collaborate enthusiastically with both clients at the local facilities and peers across O&T
  • Demonstrate impeccable written and verbal communication and presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Work closely with Business Engagement, operations teams, clients, and executive management both formally and informally
  • Track timelines, manage priorities and schedules, and set client expectations
  • Partner with Business Engagement team to capture technical requirements, provide solutions and ensure resources are available to hit required timelines.


Monitoring and Security

  • Collaborate closely with the NBCU cyber security team to build repeatable systems with security best practice and hardening
  • Preferred familiarity with PCI and SOX procedures and controls
  • Build out of enterprise-wide monitoring systems with automated alerting and dashboarding interfaces for easy troubleshooting


Qualifications

  • B.S degree in an Information Technology related technical discipline or 5+ equivalent practical experience required
  • 1-2 years of recent experience with Cloud based technologies
  • 1-2 years of experience with scripting
  • Must be willing to work evenings, overnights, weekends, holidays with little or/no notice
