1. Position Overview

The Electrical Engineering Lab Supervisor is responsible for maintaining and managing the Electrical Engineering (EE) Lab including the general supervision and technical guidance of the EE Technicians that work in that area. This is a hands-on position with plenty of responsibility for the successful delivery of leading-edge energy storage solutions in the Electric Vehicle, Consumer, and Industrial markets. The environment is fast-paced and requires the application of critical thinking in demanding situations. Above all, the role requires someone with the drive to learn new things and always go above and beyond what is required.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  1. Maintain and improve lab operations through continuous improvement activities.
  2. Provide guidance, mentoring, and supervision of other technicians working in the lab
  3. Continually prioritize dynamic project work and coordinate team resources to ensure timely execution of all Electrical Tech work
  4. Estimates costs, materials, and labor effort
  5. Ensures assigned work is completed within given time-frame
  6. Inspects work performed by EE Techs ensuring a quality product is delivered.
  7. Layout, organize and maintain the lab and materials to ensure an efficient, clean and safe work area for shared areas such as:
    • Soldering space
    • Wiring space
    • Machine tools
    • Cabinets and parts in shared area
  8. Provide direction to the other lab employees regarding organization and maintenance of their lab space with respect to the greater good of the overall space
  9. Select and purchase equipment, supplies and parts to maintain lab, and as requested by engineering staff
  10. Originate and maintain various reports, forms, logs, records, and files in compliance with existing Quality policies
  11. Plan or design systems for new fabrication, or rework as required
  12. Harness fabrication, PCB rework, electrical panel layout/build
  13. Inspects systems for compliance with safety codes and required standards.
  14. Troubleshoot and diagnose circuits and systems to support engineering efforts
  15. Provide feedback and suggestions to management regarding the performance and training needs of Electrical Engineering Techs
  16. Contribute to the development and continual improvement of processes and work flows

Basic Qualifications

  1. Vocational school certificate in electricity or completion of electrical apprenticeship
  2. 2+ years electrical or related experience in a lead or supervisory role
  3. Experience using special test equipment and common hand tools
  4. Experience planning and supervising electrical shop activities
  5. Experience in harness fabrication, PCB rework, electrical panel layout/build
  6. Previous experience inspect electrical work for completeness and quality

Preferred Qualifications 

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering
  2. 3 years+ of lab and/or technician supervisory experience
  3. Ability to use CAD software to view 3D and 2D designs
  4. Understanding and ability to use PLM systems
  5. Understanding of engineering processes and document control
  6. Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, specifications, and napkin sketches
  7. Ability to motivate employee work performance
