Director of Quality Engineering

Appetize is looking for a truly exceptional leader to work with our quality teams. This is a critical role, leading the charge for quality across all our products. Imagine Lollapalooza or a hot Yankees game in the middle of summer if you couldn’t buy a beer…unacceptable. The stuff we work on has a very real impact, and our customers will love you or hate you for what we deliver. What you and your team does matters here.

You’ll own the entire quality effort for Appetize; mobile, web, kiosk, SDK, hardware integration…the works. It’s a large QA team, with both automation and manual testing expertise across multiple time zones. This isn’t your first rodeo; you’ve got years of successful projects behind you, refining process and tuning teams to be delivery machines. You know what it means to help a software organization move from manual testing to ever increasing test automation. You’ve helped organizations learn that quality is an effort shared by every department, not just QA, and know how to lead the effort for process improvement. That experience makes you credible, yet you’re humble enough to listen. You know how to balance quick wins against following process, and how to take shortcuts without compromising principle. You’re respectful, and coach your teams to be the same. You don’t micromanage; you empower, delegate and trust. You understand that running at our pace means we’ll trip, and you view mistakes as evidence that you’re trying hard stuff and learning. You realize that your success depends on the success of your team; that you don’t need to have all the answers, you just need to grow your team and trust them to find those answers for you. Responsibilities:
• Lead and manage our quality team
• Drive the approach to quality across the entire organization
• Partner with the business to prioritize and deliver on schedule
• Help drive the deployment process
• Work closely with other leaders at Appetize to evangelize a focus on quality
• Be customer facing as necessary, building confidence and credibility
• Be available as necessary to coordinate troubleshooting urgent issues
• Be a technical thought-leader, constantly improving how we design software
• Be approachable and transparent, wear a lot of hats, and always be aware of the big picture of making Appetize great

Requirements:
• 8+ years of QA experience as an individual contributor
• 5+ years of management experience
• Experience leading quality efforts for customer facing web and mobile applications
• Experience leading both manual and automation testing efforts
• Strong knowledge of quality tools such as TestRail, Selenium, Appium, etc.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, or similar experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, and excellent listening skills
• Willing to travel occasionally, including internationally
