As a Director of Engineering on the Tapcart Engineering team, you will have the opportunity to help build our department during this exciting growth phase. We're a tight-knit group invested in creating an engineering culture where small autonomous teams can determine the solutions to complex problems, deliver world-class technical implementation, and lay the architectural foundation for the next generation of mobile e-commerce.

The Director of Engineering will lead our consumer applications team and oversee development of our native iOS and Android applications. You will be responsible for scaling our headcount and engineering culture as well as defining the strategic direction of our native applications. You will develop and iterate on processes to effectively balance the maintenance and improvement of our mobile offerings with an ambitious product roadmap.

You are skilled at translating complex engineering concerns into business value for technical and non-technical stakeholders. Your focus will be to ensure our teams are here to have fun and achieve our goals. In addition, you will foster a sense of trust, psychological safety, open communication, and fairness in our engineering organization.

How you will make an impact:

• Collaborate, define, and drive strategic direction for your department
• Lead engineering culture by example, encourage critical analysis and data-driven technical decision-making, and actively participate in architecture design
• Work closely with Staff Engineers and Senior IC leaders to deliver high-quality software. Utilizing your experience and knowledge of both soft skills and software to bridge the gap between leadership and technical excellence
• Set department goals by informing on budgets, hiring plans, and team process, capacity, and timelines
• Advocate, clarify and drive investment in technical debt

What skills you will need:

• 8+ yrs of experience in engineering, 3+ yrs as a Director in mobile applications development or equivalent experience as a Senior Manager.
• Extensive experience architecting, designing, and implementing apps on iOS and Android Platforms
• A collaborative leadership style and desire to mentor, along with cross-functional team experience
• Experience working in an agile product development environment; including building from scratch and continuously improving
• Strong experience driving application architecture, approach, and strategic goals for both iOS and Android native applications
