The role

Metropolis is seeking a Devops Engineer. In this role, you'll be responsible for supporting and enhancing a complex SaaS infrastructure hosted on AWS, as well as the internal tools and processes used to build and deploy our software. Reporting to the Director of Technical Operations, you'll work with others to design, implement, and improve our end-to-end processes and environments. Your focus will be on the operational elements of our services including designing new automated processes, spinning up new infrastructure, maintaining and supporting multiple stacks, and integrating with the development teams. You will also have the opportunity to influence architecture and the technology stack to promote quality and innovation necessary for industry changing data driven machine learning systems.

Key Responsibilities 

• Design, build and maintain a stable and efficient infrastructure to optimize service delivery across production, QA, and development environments throughout the development lifecycle.

• Monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and continuously improve building, packaging, and deployment processes.

• Implement automated infrastructure capabilities like backups, security tools, and monitoring.

• Utilize a consistent DevOps approach to improve all phases of the process and ensure end-to-end quality across functions.

• Work with the Product team to understand the complex business rules and figure out how to optimize the infrastructure to satisfy those requirements.

• Problem solve, think big, and explore divergent concepts/ideas while understanding how to converge and build iteratively towards the goals of the Technical Operations team

• Inspire the entire team (including your cross-functional) partners by bringing new ideas to the table.

• Identify DevOps opportunities and drive DevOps pipeline for different technologies across projects

• Help with hiring and onboarding of engineers to the Technical Operations team.

Requirements and Qualifications

• 5+ years experience with AWS administration and architecture

• 5+ years experience with enhancing DevOps architecture

• 5+ years experience with maintaining infrastructure, supporting production workloads, and configuration management

• 5+ years experience automating deployments of various infrastructure deployment elements using tools such as Packer, Ansible, Terraform, Python.

• Experienced with network and VPN infrastructure, database, cloud and data center operations, and security protocols

• Experience with programming and scripting

• Knowledge of Unix/Linux operating system administration

• Excited about working in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
