You Aspire To: 

We are looking for driven mechanical engineers to spearhead tooling design and development. You will own the relationship between the engineering development of, field service, and production teams. The success of Heliogen depends on the quality, reliability, cost, manufacturability, throughput, safety, and user experience of the products that you deliver.

  • Design and develop high quality tooling development for production and field service products
  • Spearhead tooling efforts to develop the factory of the future by creating design solutions that support automation and rapid iteration.
  • Capable of integrating concepts and principles of mechanical design and analysis of several different projects in a fast-paced environment - projects will vary in size and scale
  • Ability to interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) in creating tooling drawing definitions
  • Handle a wide range of technical problems and familiar with all types of
  • material handling, assembly production fixtures, test fixtures, structural weldments, and custom machines
  • Close collaboration with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and field services to achieve the best possible cradle to grave solutions incorporating (safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, life, and maintenance/refurbishment)
  • Manage projects including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, equipment installation, and commissioning of tooling 
  • Set, implement, and maintain schedules and budgets to ensure project completion
  • Facilitate effective and collaborative communication by fostering creativity and leveraging team member strengths
  • The ability to work in a team environment is a must. All designs are the collective effort of the team
  • Ensuring safe maintenance operations and compliance with company objectives, health & safety policies.

What's Essential:

  • A successful candidate will typically have a B.S. degree in any Engineering discipline from an accredited institution
  • 4+ years of work or project experience with design, build, and commissioning of tooling and fixtures from an accredited manufacturing discipline in aerospace, automotive, pharmaceutical.
  • Experience using CAD and FEA-based analysis software (NX and ANSYS Workbench preferred) for structural applications.
  • Ability to perform trade studies using first principals and engineering fundamentals to assess risk and make clear recommendations with rationale even with partial information.
  • Familiarity with common engineering materials properties (strength, life, thermal, compatibility etc.) including metals and soft goods.
  • Proficiency in MS Office products and broad knowledge of advanced analytical tools
  • Strong communication and relationship skills.
  • Experience solving complex problems with little to no supervision on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team.
  • Strong computer skills, including a proficiency in Microsoft Office to build work instructions and process maps.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to succinctly present recommendations to stakeholders, the customer, and management.
  • Highly self-motivated with strong organizational skills – able to prioritize and execute tasks with ongoing drive for continuous improvement in all aspects of work.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience with multi-system engineering design.
  • Demonstrated capability solving complex problems on schedule as an individual or as a member of an integrated team.
  • Experience designing/operating and building robotic systems.
  • Knowledge of quality tools such as Lean principles, Six Sigma, Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action, Metrology, and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Ability and willingness to put in extra time to mentor other engineers while also being a significant individual contributor.
  • Able to work well in an integrated collaborative team environment, including frequent interactions with technicians, other engineers, and managers.
