The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Cyber Security Engineer to join our growing team who design, implement, and deploy cyber solutions to defend our nation’s most valuable assets in space. We support a variety of customers including the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC), the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), and other civil customers (e.g. NASA) by protecting their ground networks and satellite systems from sophisticated adversaries. The qualified candidate will become part of the Defensive Cyber Operations section in the Cyber Defense Solutions Department.

 

Key Functions

  • Perform vulnerability assessments of mission systems and provide recommendations on mitigations

  • Develop novel tools and techniques to detect abnormal activity on space mission systems

  • Leverage orchestration and cyber security tools and technologies to measure effectiveness and impact on mission systems

  • Integrate various cyber security products and tools to deliver guidance and best practices tailored to customer needs

  • Proactively interact with customers and coworkers by presenting project status, technical findings and technical demonstrations

 

This position can be filled as a Member of Technical Staff or a Senior Member of Technical Staff.

 

Qualifications

 

Required for Defensive Cyber Engineer - Member of Technical Staff:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Systems or similar discipline

  • Proficient with one or more programming languages including but not limited to C/C++, Python, Java

  • Proficient with bash, shell, PowerShell, and/or basic scripting on Linux and Windows platforms

  • 2 or more years of experience using and securing commercial and/or open source technologies such as operating systems, firewalls, routers, switches, software applications, or embedded applications

  • 2 or more years of cyber security experience including the use of SIEM tools, SOAR/Orchestration tools, EDR tools, Penetration Test or Vulnerability Assessment tools, or Incident Response procedures and tools

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

 

Required for Sr. Defensive Cyber Engineer – Sr. Member of Technical Staff:

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Systems or similar discipline

  • Ability to lead teams and projects in the areas of software, hardware, cloud security, orchestration and automation, and/or network security

  • Proficient with one or more programming languages including but not limited to C/C++, Python, Java

  • Proficient with bash, shell, PowerShell, and/or basic scripting on Linux and Windows platforms

  • 5 or more years of experience using and securing commercial and/or open source technologies such as operating systems, firewalls, routers, switches, software applications, or embedded applications

  • 5 or more years of cyber security experience including the use of SIEM tools, SOAR/Orchestration tools, EDR tools, Penetration Test or Vulnerability Assessment tools, or Incident Response procedures and tools

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance

  • Active security clearance

  • Working knowledge of satellite system operations and technologies

  • Experience in cryptographic systems design (i.e., algorithms, key management)

  • Experience with various cloud offerings and services (AWS, VMWare, Azure, DISA milCloud)

  • Experience with container technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, Twistlock, Prisma)

  • Experience using static code analysis tools and analyzing results (Fortify, SonarQube, Coverity)

  • Experience building, maintaining, and integrating additional security tools into DevSecOps CI/CD pipelines

To protect against bad actors threatening outer space, the hardware security team’s responsibilities run the gamut. Zantout’s work includes research and development, prototyping, and applying hardware assurance capabilities to national security space and terrestrial programs. Recently, her team built a security monitor that detects attacks on field-programmable gate arrays aboard spacecrafts and satellites.
I have the opportunity to work on technical and hands-on projects as well as policy-related tasks like standard development.
