Position Details:

The position is with the Boeing Research and Technology (BR&T) Guidance, Navigation, Control & Autonomy team with locations in either Seattle, Washington or Huntington Beach, California. The selected candidate will work with other Boeing engineers in a mentoring and collaborative mode in order to address research and development challenges in the areas of guidance, navigation, flight controls, and autonomy. As these areas span a wide range of technologies, the particular assigned work will depend on the strengths and interests of the candidate as well as the most current programmatic needs and priorities.

With guidance from senior engineers the candidate will perform research and development of technologies needed for areas such as advanced control system design and analysis methods and tools, dynamic system modeling and simulation, uncertainty quantification, trajectory optimization, and technologies needed to enable increased automation and full autonomous operations. With guidance from other engineers the candidate is expected to have the ability to analyze problems and develop potential approaches and solutions.

The work involves aspects of problem solving, design, coding/implementation, mathematical modeling and simulation, algorithm development, testing, analysis, and reporting. The candidate will carry out experiment design, testing, and results analysis as well as prepare reports and give presentations.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):  

  • This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.
  • Currently enrolled at an accredited college or university pursuing a Doctorate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field of Study.
  • The ability to work a minimum of 10 weeks (12 weeks preferred) in Summer 2021 in either Tukwila, Washington or Huntington Beach, California.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience in any of the following: classical control theory, modern control theory, modeling & simulation, guidance, control system architectures, sensors, signal processing, navigation, flight dynamics, autonomous systems, and machine learning.
  • Experience in programming and/or scripting languages such as C, C++, MATLAB/Simulink, or Python.
  • Experience with dynamic system modeling and simulation, control system design and analysis methods, advanced mathematics, Monte Carlo analysis, MATLAB, Simulink, C or C++, object oriented design, system architecture, and autonomous systems is desired.
  • Some familiarity with machine learning, AI, probabilistic reasoning and decision making, GPGPU programming, or messaging standards and service oriented architectures is a plus.
  • The candidate must have good team collaboration skills and good communication skills.
