Responsibilities
Aerospace Atlas and Delta Operations provides an independent flight readiness position to Space Force / Space and Missile Systems Center. Atlas and Delta Operations is looking for a motivated, proactive individual to provide a broad range of technical and programmatic support associated with Atlas V and Delta IV launch vehicle avionics systems. The candidate will need to utilize broad systems engineering as well as a detailed understanding of avionics hardware technology and issues to identify areas of concern. The selected candidate will be responsible for a variety of mission assurance activities, which may include specific airborne avionics hardware and systems accountability depending on need as the programs transition to fly-out.
Key Functions
- Provide technical assessment and project management in support of Atlas V and Delta IV Operations
- Assemble technical support teams to review contractor development activities, monitor component and system qualification and acceptance testing, and evaluate hardware flightworthiness
- Identify issues and concerns with flight hardware, and provide risk assessment and mitigation recommendations to the customer and management
- Proactively engage with program office staff responsible for other aspects of launch systems
- Provide flight readiness assessments and postflight evaluations to the Space Force and Aerospace program management
- Provide real-time on-console support during Atlas and Delta launch campaigns
- Provide regular status reports to management, Chief Engineers, and customers
- Provide systems engineering for a broad range of technical and launch operation activities primarily related to avionics systems, and agile support of other vehicle systems as needs arise
- Identify issues and concerns with select flight Avionics hardware or systems and provide risk assessment and mitigation recommendations to the customer and management
- Directly engage with contractors to maintain cognizance of activities required to insure flight-worthy launch vehicles and successful processing activities
- Participate in issue resolution, testing activities, and failure investigations
- Lead and participate in teams in support of launch verification activities including disposition of flight issues, launch verification matrix requirements and launch operations support
- Effectively interact with Government, Contractor and Aerospace personnel and provide mentorship to Air Force project officers
- Prepare documentation and deliver briefings, as needed
- Participate in real-time launch support and hardware acceptance reviews, as necessary
- Travel to contractor, vendor and launch site facilities, as required
Qualifications
Required
- BS or higher degree in Engineering or Science
- Typically 8 years of relevant engineering/scientific experience with increasing responsibility
- Demonstrated experience in systems engineering and/or technical project management
- Experience and strong knowledge of launch vehicle Avionics systems design, development, test, and operations
- Demonstrated team leadership and team building experiences
- Demonstrated project management skills and ability to utilize matrix support resources
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal, written and oral presentation skills
- Demonstrated perseverance, resourcefulness and ability to work with limited immediate management oversight
- Ability to provide risk assessments of complex technical issues
- Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of customer, contractor and Aerospace personnel
- Must be capable of working on a fast-paced program with strong emphasis on risk identification and mitigation
- Must be able to travel
- Current DoD secret clearance or ability to obtain a secret clearance
Preferred
- Experience with development, design and test of flight computers, guidance/navigation systems and sensors, and digital electronics
- Experience in all phases of acquisition, from requirements specification through development, manufacturing, testing and verification, and launch is desired
- Advanced degree in a relevant discipline
- Experience interfacing with Air Force and other Government agencies
- Familiarity with the Atlas V and Delta IV launch vehicles
