THE PURPOSE:

The Automation Team serves to support the development, manufacturing, and installation of hyperloop systems globally. The team specifies, designs, procures, and fabricates a wide variety of automated manufacturing and assembly/installation equipment. The Applications Development Technician is an integral member of the Automation Team who provides expertise and capability in application development to enable the success of departmental projects.

THE ROLE:

The Applications Development Technician will primarily be responsible for supporting the commissioning of custom equipment for the Automation Team. These may vary from small R&D tasks to large scale production equipment. These projects will generally be interdisciplinary, and the candidate will work with other members of the Automation Team (mechanical, electrical, software, etc.) to deliver an integrated and functional solution.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the assembly and commissioning of fixtures and equipment (both automated and non-automated)
  • Troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues; adjusting when needed.
  • Troubleshooting and tuning automated applications
  • Light fabrication
  • Maintaining and servicing equipment
  • Documenting any changes providing assembly feedback to engineering
  • Creating and maintaining user guides / equipment documentation
  • Supporting equipment deployment at Hyperloop One facilities and vendor facilities as needed. (Travel may be required)

THE CANDIDATE:

The candidate must be an experienced, mechanically-inclined individual with the following attributes:

MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 5+ years in a hands-on applications role in an industrial automation and/or machine building environment
  • Familiarity or experience with automated equipment
  • Familiarity with application development
  • Demonstrated talent and track record in machine design
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings
  • Experienced with pneumatics (fittings, routing, valves, etc.)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with proper use of machine and hand tools
  • Experience with high precision assembly
  • Experienced with robots (6-axis, Scara, Cartesian, etc.)
  • Experienced with a wide variety of sensors
  • Basic understanding of software
  • Basic familiarity with machine vision
  • Good organizational skills

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Technical certification in a mechanically related field
  • Understanding of GD&T, Y14.5M-2009
  • Experience in automation application development
  • Broad knowledge of materials and fabrication processes
  • Experienced with automated welding, adhesive dispensing, pick & place,
  • Experienced with machine vision (Cognex or Keyence)
  • Experience with machine vision (Cognex or Keyence)
