About this role:

We’re excited to be hiring for a Documentation Team Lead to lead and scale the product docs at Astronomer, shaping the content strategy and user experience for Astronomer and Apache Airflow users worldwide. Astronomer’s documentation is recognized as some of the best in the industry, and this role plays a critical part in ensuring it remains world-class as our products and audience continue to grow.

As the Docs Lead, you’ll set the vision for how documentation supports our customers, guides our open source community, and differentiates our products. If you’re a product-minded technical writer and content leader who thrives at the intersection of engineering, product, and design—and you’re passionate about building high-quality technical content that educates and empowers users—this role is for you.

What you get to do:
  • Create a comprehensive content strategy for the Astronomer commercial product and open source project documentation.

  • Collaborate with the Product and Engineering organization to prioritize content development, operations, and content infrastructure improvement.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders in Marketing and DevRel to deliver timely, supportive feature documentation for new launches.

  • Lead and develop the Astronomer Docs team.

  • Write and maintain high-quality documentation across product areas, including product guides, tutorials, API references, and release notes.

  • Level-up the docs infrastructure tooling used by the docs team to create consistently high-quality docs, automate style guide suggestions (such as vale.sh), and define AI use cases.

What you bring to the role:.
  • 7+ years of experience recommended, including experience leading teams to deliver SaaS, API, OSS, and on-premise technical product documentation.

  • Proficiency in Git, GitHub, and version control tooling.

  • Strong project management skills — you can work with teams and a list of cross-functional priorities to create actionable plans that deliver excellent content, on time.

  • Enough familiarity with Kubernetes and Helm that you can read through values.yaml files and understand how they relate to feature enablement.

  • Knowledge of the processes for publishing API docs and other kinds of product documentation.

  • Conversant in cloud provider services and concepts like infrastructure management, authentication, and enterprise needs.

Bonus points if you have:
  • Knowledge of React.js

  • Knowledge of Apache Airflow

  • Localization project management experience

  • Fern Docs tooling experience

The estimated salary for this role ranges from $140,000 - $170,000 based on leveling and geography, along with an equity component and a comprehensive benefits package. This range is merely an estimate; actual compensation may deviate from this range based on skills, experience, and qualifications.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
