The Design team we are building will be supported by lean, nimble, and meaningful processes and the systems and tools to support your development as a world class designer. All of this is in support of moving towards a design culture that supports risk taking and innovation and values quality and flexibility.


We’re looking for an inspiring Design Director to drive quality and results for our users across our experience Design team. This role reports directly to the Head of Design, and works closely with cross-functional partners in Product and Engineering, to lead, manage and grow a team of designers to shape and build the experience.


You’ll be in a position to design and reshape the core experience of our app creating the foundation for Dave to build upon for years to come.


You’ll oversee the design of high-quality features and workflows and foster a sense of ownership throughout the process from your team. You will ensure the team is both designing the right thing and designing it right.

You will help lead strategy and give guidance to direct the future of our product, all while hiring, growing, and inspiring an amazing team of designers.


Additionally, you’ll serve on the leadership team for the Design organization and in that role, you will be fundamental to creating and nurturing our culture. You’ll provide thoughtful leadership to your reports and mentorship to the broader team. You’ll also partner with the rest of Design leadership, tackling when and how to systematize how we work as a group. 


While your product work -- and the team’s work-- itself will not be in the 0-1 space, this is a 0-1 role; a space for seekers and builders. 

What you'll do:

  • Build and manage a talented, diverse, inclusive team of product designers and design managers that consistently delivers on projects and is well-balanced across a range of design skill sets
  • Drive collaboration and vision across different product verticals to build alignment on priorities leading to product design and execution
  • Shape the product roadmap, both short term and long-term
  • Partner closely with product managers, engineers, content designers, user experience researchers, product growth analysts to deliver high quality experiences for our users. 
  • Oversee multiple projects and scale design resources accordingly, ensuring deadlines are met, your team is effective, and designers are set up for success by setting clear and measurable goals.
  • Foster design thinking/user centric/product strategy skills in cross-functional partners
  • Advocate for the user in partnering to prioritize roadmap, and model advocacy and balance for your team, and the design org as a whole
  • Develop design talent and contribute to a culture where designers grow in their careers with a sense of inclusion, belonging, opportunity and altruism
  • Foster a strong, collaborative design practice within your team and throughout the Design organization.

What you'll need:

  • 10+ years of experience in Product Design
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience with direct reports under your guidance and leadership, including hiring and developing both managers and individual contributors
  • 5+ years of experience working collaboratively with product, engineering, design, content and user research teams
  • Proven track record as a highly effective people leader, including: 
  • A passion for excellence with the ability to inspire others to the highest standards 
  • Ability to effectively lead the team through change
  • Ability to communicate with clarity and consistency and provide an appropriate level of transparency on matters that impact team members’ work and ability to be successful
  • Strong emotional intelligence
  • Credibility and gravitas to garner the respect and support of the design team, leadership team and other key stakeholders
  • Success in attracting and retaining high performing, values aligned team members and creating a team culture where the team can thrive
  • A track record of innovation (eg patents) and shipping (live, adopted & used products)
