Summary

As a VP, Data Engineering, you will lead Pluto TV’s data engineering efforts to both optimize our business and provide true insight to our partners. This role oversees the data engineering function, including data engineering, data automation, data pipeline. Ideally you will use your understanding of both the business and the technical aspects of business intelligence and data engineering in relation to digital media or web advertising businesses. You will grow and scale the data team and provide both technical and team leadership.

Responsibilities Include

This important role has a wide range of responsibilities, including:

• Recruit, retain and focus strong data engineers (onshore and offshore)
• Provide guidance to top management on KPI’s, metrics, and business decisions including accurate analysis of user and business data. Provide informative data analysis and automated BI reporting and analysis to our advertising and distribution partners.
• Data engineering:
• Design, model and develop data sets to support reporting and analytics in a cloud environment
• ETL development: handle all aspects of programming assignments and assist with systems design
• Develop and maintain a technical metadata framework and repository of data events and ETL operations
• Lead and administer analytics tools and tag management systems
• Help plan and maintain the technical infrastructure, its configuration, performance, and storage requirements, with consideration of tiered data and data archiving
• Automate BI reporting functions
• Advise in the usage, interpretation, and automation of data to various business partners

Qualities / Experience We’re Seeking

We believe the right individual will have the following skills and experience in order to be successful in this role:

• Strong executive leadership experience leading teams of data engineers
• Experience engaging with top executives and collaborating with business leaders to leverage the value of data to drive and influence the business
• Strong technical recruitment and experience previously scaling a team onshore and offshore. Strong judge of talent.
• Shown success driving teams and delivering results quickly in a startup environment
• Working knowledge of digital media and/or consumer web services ecosystem, advertising experience is helpful
• Experience managing and leading data engineering efforts with the following technologies:
• Premier data engineering experience on cloud infrastructure (AWS).
• Real-time big data analytics and ETL development
• Hadoop, MapReduce, or other data platforms
• Columnar databases like Redshift, Vertica etc.
• Software data engineering with languages such as Java, Python, scripting
• Data visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau
• Statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets
