The Research Analyst is an integral member of the Advancement fundraising team; responsibilities include identifying, researching, and analyzing prospects for major gift cultivation and solicitation for both individual giving as well as prizes, Impact Maps, Prize Designs, and other XPRIZE projects. This research and analysis serves as the foundation of fundraising initiatives and directly contributes to the initiative's successes.

Prospect Identification

  • Proactively and independently plan and execute strategies to identify sources for fundraising initiatives insuring that each initiative has enough prospects to meet fundraising goals
  • Recommend strategies for cultivation and solicitation
  • Advise assigned accounts of interdisciplinary campus relationships, interests, linkages, capacity and other areas which influence or impact cultivation and solicitation strategies

Research/Analysis/Evaluation

  • Analyze and assess information from local, national, and international resources; financial and philanthropy reports; references (both printed and electronic); and other source
  • Utilize quantitative criteria, including income, assets, liabilities, and giving patterns to evaluate each identified prospect's potential and propensity to give
  • Evaluate research results to develop and implement further research strategies utilizing ethical intelligence-gathering techniques of the information profession

Writing and Consultation

  • As a result of analysis, write documents (profiles, bios and project summaries) using style, grammar, and content appropriate to the specific audience
  • Interpret and translate complex financial, legal and corporate language into easily comprehensible terms while adhering to standards of discretion and confidentiality

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution required
  • Three + years experience in prospect research, development, library research or related field preferably in a non-profit setting with increasing responsibilities
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and analytically in order to initiate and perform complex analyses
  • Advanced analytical skills and ability to interpret/analyze complex financial and legal disclosures, technical and trade documents, including court and tax records, annual reports, SEC filings, and real property files
  • Knowledge of current trends within philanthropy and higher education
  • Skill in analyzing and organizing information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships among individuals, corporations, and foundations
  • Ability to recall, recognize, and communicate interrelated information pertaining to benefactors and prospects
  • Knowledge of philosophical and practical bases of institutional advancement research methods
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and develop proactive prospecting methodologies to support organization goals; identify prospects (through constituent list segmentation, push technology, electronic database screening, and peer/constituency screening and rating); and understand wealth indicators, including income (estimated or public) and assets
  • Demonstrated skill in writing and editing logical, detailed, and analytical reports that support planning and decision making
  • Demonstrated skill in utilizing multiple electronic resources such as Lexis/Nexis, Wealth Engine, and Relationship Science to locate and compile business and biographic information
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Exchange, and MS Office Suite, especially MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint
