Manager, Data Science
FabFitFun is dominating the women's lifestyle marketplace through our curated subscription boxes, FFF branded products including makeup and accessories lines, as well as a video streaming platform featuring live and licensed content. With over 1M members and growing, we are leveraging large amounts of data and are now seeking a Manager, Data Science to help manage and grow our data science team, while developing data products that are at the core of our business. This role will report to the Director, Data Science.
The data science team develops statistical and machine-learning models used to recommend products, personalize our member experience in multiple channels, guide merchandise decisions, cluster and segment our members, and drive many other key decisions across the company. You will lead a team of data scientists to develop new data products, analyze massive data sets, clean and explore data, test and deploy data services, and tune and optimize existing algorithms. Our ideal candidate will be up to date with modern data science techniques and have experience with subscription business models.
What you’ll do:
- Lead a rapidly growing group of experienced and developing data scientists
- Develop statistical models of customer, product, and operations data that will be used for decision-making throughout the company. Current applications include retention and lifetime value prediction, customer segmentation, product recommendation, and more
- Own data science projects from start to delivery (business requirements, data exploration, model development, deploying models, and maintaining models and data services)
- Build clear visualizations to convey complex ideas and analyses to executives and business unit leaders
- Combine and analyze data from multiple data sources (transactions, surveys, web and mobile events) to build holistic models of our members and products
- Provide statistical and machine learning expertise and mentorship to improve skills across your team and others
What you’ll bring:
- Master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in data science, statistics, computer science, mathematics, physical or social sciences, engineering, or other quantitative field
- 4+ years of relevant work experience in statistics, data science, or machine learning (or Ph.D. in a quantitative field)
- Experience hiring and managing data scientists, analysts, and/or engineers
- Proven ability to tackle business problems with data science solutions in production
- Proven ability in developing both automated services and ad hoc analyses
- Expert knowledge of modern machine learning algorithms (regression, classification, random forests, clustering, optimization, etc.) and statistical inference
- Strong programming skills (Python and/or R, SQL)
- Strong data visualization skills (Tableau, Looker, Python/R packages, etc.)
- Experience with consumer/consumer-facing data
- Experience with customer lifetime value modeling is a strong plus
