SUMMARY
WELL is looking for an experienced Director, Data Science to join our growing organization. This person would report to our CTO, and lead a team of data scientists, data engineers, and data analysts. You are someone that is excited about being a pioneer in the healthcare technology space. You enjoy solving complex business problems in a fast-paced, collaborative, and inclusive environment.
As a Data Science Director you will work with Product and Application Engineering teams to implement new capabilities, manage existing data resources, and innovate in the areas of machine learning and predictive analytics. In this role you will split your time between hands on development focused around machine learning and predictive analytics, and managerial activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to the system architecture and infrastructure decision making processes
- Collaborate with and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions in full-stack development tools and technologies
- Mentor and support your team
- Work with a team of developers with deep experience in machine learning, distributed microservices, and full stack systems
- Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies
- Collaborate with product managers, and deliver robust cloud-based product features and insights that improve patient’s lives
- Perform unit tests and conduct reviews with other team members to make sure your code is rigorously designed, elegantly coded, and effectively tuned for performance
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field is required, Master's Degree is strongly preferred
- 4+ Years of Data Warehouse Experience with Oracle, Redshift, PostgreSQL, etc.
- 3+ years experience as a people manager
- Healthcare experience
- Experience mentoring and managing Data Scientists and Data Engineers
- Significant experience with machine learning models and analysis of large data sets
- Demonstrated strength in SQL, data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing
- Coding proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Ruby, Scala, Java, etc.)
- Proven track record of sharing outcomes through written communication, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical teams
- Experience with Linux/UNIX
- At least 1 year of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure or another public cloud service
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate complex technology solutions to senior leadership to ensure alignment and drive progress
BONUS
- Extensive experience working with AWS with a strong understanding of Redshift, EMR, Athena, Aurora, DynamoDB, Kinesis, Lambda, S3, EC2, etc.
- Experience with Looker and/or Tableau
- Experience with NLP
LOCATION
WELL is headquartered in Santa Barbara, CA and has a satellite office in Orange County, CA. Today, all WELL positions are remote, and we are looking forward to when our company returns to in-office work. We are open to candidates that are looking for a permanently remote role depending on their level of experience. Historically, remote team members visit the Santa Barbara office regularly, and we’ve found that works best when they are on the West Coast, specifically in Southern California.
