LEAD DATA ENGINEER TECHNOLOGY



WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?



The Data Engineer Lead works with department and lines of business subject matter expert (SMEs) across the enterprise to meet departmental and organizational objectives. The engineer will help establish end-to-end process standards and guidelines that ensure accurate and efficient build out of data pipeline architecture within project timeframes.

As a member of City National's Technology & Innovation group, you will drive, develop, and maintain solutions for clients and colleagues. This is an exciting time of technology advancement and innovation across the bank, particularly within our technology teams.



WHAT WILL YOU DO?



  • Function in accordance with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) framework and governance processes
  • Participate in development of test plans and perform quality assurance and testing of own work and that of peers
  • Function in accordance with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) framework and governance processes
  • Ensure work includes necessary audit controls such as Audit, Balance and Control (ABC) Framework and security controls within all design and deliverables
  • Document data workflows including but not limited to: functional specs, technical specs, mapping / workflow diagram, testing plans, production “run books”, training materials, etc.
  • Accurately define and execute transformations, aggregations and other data manipulations to meet requirements
  • Participate in development of test plans and perform quality assurance testing of own work and that of peers
  • Identify development and data quality issues and work on resolutions to mitigate
  • Conduct team review sessions
  • Develop standards, templates and procedures for the department
  • Contribute to the design of the data structure/data model and data flow
  • Manage team execution of large programs & projects of significant complexity and risk
  • Participate and contribute to data pipeline architecture
  • Maintain an enterprise level view across department data landscape
  • Conduct on-going analysis and make recommended improvement of the development process and practices
  • Actively mentor and coach other colleagues



WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED


Must-Have*

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Five (7) years relevant experience in the following:
  • Full software development life cycle frameworks
  • Database technologies including traditional RDBMS such as Oracle and SQL Server.
  • Advanced SQL coding with an emphasis on data transformation functions
  • Transformation tools such as Informatica PowerCenter, Microsoft SSIS, IBM Data Stage, etc.
  • Three (3) years experience in a lead role overseeing and directing day-to-day tasks

  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced interpersonal relations skills, ability to effectively collaborate with others and work as part of a team
  • Able to navigate a large organization, including managing political sensitivities, in order to accomplish results
  • Ability to initiate and follow through on projects of varying complexity and duration
  • Highly developed organizational and time management skills.
  • Highly developed analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Able to work with a high degree of independence, assumes responsibility for job development and training, researches and resolves questions and problems, requests manager input and keeps manager informed
  • Completes projects of substantial depth and complexity
  • Demonstrated ability to work with all levels in the organization
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Strong demonstrated learning aptitude and orientation
  • Ability to teach, mentor and consult with others
  • Demonstrated fluency with SQL
  • Excellent skills and experience in 5 or more data/analytics competencies in domains including subject matter expertise, analytic methods and tools, business intelligence, data management, data architecture, analysis and critical thinking skills, data governance, analytics education / learning, ontology, and metadata.
  • Experience in financial industry (banking preferred)

Compensation

Starting base salary: $111,408 - $189,738 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location. This job is eligible for bonus and/or commissions.
