Media Tech Summer 2024 Internship Program:

Here at NBCU, we strive to be on the forefront of leading-edge technology and are seeking a savvy troop of technologists we call Media Tech Interns.
Our program exposes students to technical opportunities across NBCUniversal's Operations & Technology organizations and serves as a main pipeline into our Rotational Associate Programs. As a NBCUniversal Media Tech Intern, you will gain hands-on experience, allowing you to apply your classroom knowledge to practical situations. We offer a 2 day in-person orientation in our NY office where we bring all interns together to meet each other and various business leaders.
Students will experience firsthand how one of the largest media and entertainment companies in the world operates and delivers strategic, innovative solutions.
Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to:
- Data & Analytics, Consumer: Data & Analytics (D&A), Consumer is a central support team for multiple business units across NBCU. The two primary projects/teams you would have exposure to are Data Mesh and Machine Learning Operations (ML Ops). The Data Mesh Project focuses on centralizing the provisioning process of data sets ("products") as required throughout the organization emphasizing cost reduction in data storage of redundant data products. Teams involved in this effort includes: Product (PMO), Enterprise Data Governance (EDG), Data Management, two development teams (Data Mesh Application and Data Mesh Governance), and countless business units across NBCU domains. The intern would sit in the middle of these teams (with the Technical Project Manager) and get exposure to the prioritization, planning, and development practices of all groups. There are approximately 15 immediate team members and stakeholders with an opportunity to interact with countless stakeholders across NBCU. The Machine Learning Operations team is relatively new to NBCU/D&A with a focus on expanding the technological capabilities and possibilities in Data Management, Machine Learning, and Data Science. The ML Ops team includes six immediate team members and has exposure to a potential 10+ other NBCU stakeholders. The intern would sit in the middle of these teams (with the Technical Project Manager) and get exposure to the prioritization, planning, and development practices of all groups.
- Data Engineering, Research: Our group is a horizontal that is comprised of data engineers that support content production, research transformation, film, marketing, and DAVD. Many of our projects include ingesting data about the content that NBCU owns, has the rights for, rents rights for, how our content is performing, and how our films are performing at box office. The intern would support data ingestion pipeline enhancements & creation, perform code review on pull requests, and cloud optimization.
- Data Engineering, Content Analytics: The Content Analytics organization builds insights for various businesses across NBCU. We build data pipelines to bring data that has to do with the entire content lifecycle, including, studios, titles, rights, scheduling, supply chain, marketing, theatrical releases, and measurement and performance. Sitting within the Data & Analytics portfolio, you get to partner with other engineers solving similar problems within their domains and learn from some of the brightest data engineers in the industry. The intern would support building data pipelines, and understanding data we can ingest informing us about our content. The intern would also build data models for ease of use of the data we ingest.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program.
- Current class standing of sophomore or above (30 credits).
- Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by NBCUniversal.
- Must be working from a location within a U.S. state during all hours worked.
Desired Characteristics:
- Students with class standing of junior or above preferred.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
- Familiarity with the traditional DEV Ops Process.
- Understanding of Scaled Agile (SAFe5).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and PowerPoint).
- Jira/Project Management Tools.
- Background/Understanding of the Media and Entertainment industries audience analytics challenges.
- Familiarity with Python, SQL, Github and Cloud (AWS preferably).
- Experience with data warehousing.
The hourly rate for undergraduate student interns is $30.00
The hourly rate for graduate student interns is $30.00
