The Business Intelligence Manager will play a vital role in building a strong understanding of our data and generating insights that will drive action across all aspects of Medely’s business. You will develop sophisticated analytics, present and explain findings, and build dashboards and reports to track performance. This is a unique opportunity to join the team at an early stage and help shape the future of Medely’s BI function. 

Job Responsibilities

• Combine strategic, creative, and technical skills to deepen the organization’s understanding of business trends and customer behavior and drive growth in core KPIs
• Own the BI team vision and roadmap - prioritizing requests, balancing tactical and strategic needs, and managing deadlines
• Act as both a player and coach, operating as an individual contributor while also guiding and developing a talented team of data analysts
• Lead analytical deep-dives by developing sophisticated models to produce robust and actionable product, user, and business insights
• Provide ad-hoc analyses and day-to-day support that inform business operations and senior management decisions
• Investigate, triage and resolve metrics-based issues
• Build and maintain compelling internal dashboards using best-in-class visualization practices that enable cross-functional stakeholders to monitor the health of the business and quickly draw insights
• Clearly and concisely present recommendations that motivate and inspire the team to build with conviction
• Look for opportunities to automate insights through alerting and anomaly detection
• Lead the definition and governance of metrics, and provide the necessary tools, processes, and trainings to democratize data and encourage self-service analytics capabilities
• Partner closely with Engineering to drive the collection of new data and the refinement of existing data sources

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, statistics, data science or other technical field
• 6+ years of experience in analytics, business intelligence, statistics, data science, consulting or other relevant field
• Experience managing a team and mentoring junior team members
• Advanced SQL skills and ability to write well optimized queries including a variety of functions and subqueries as well as a strong understanding of databases and business intelligence tools (e.g. Mode)
• Mastery of reporting tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI), knowledge of data visualization techniques, and a passion for telling stories with data to technical and non-technical audiences
• Competency in Ruby or other scripting language
• Strong analytical skills and a proven ability to work with large data sets and give structure to ambiguous problems
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Self-starter, with ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, drive change through influence, and collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders
• Intellectual curiosity for what drives our business

• Experience designing and reading out experiments 
• Previous startup experience, particularly in marketplace businesses
