About the Behavioral Scientist at Headspace:

Headspace is looking for a Behavioral Scientist to join our growing Science Team. You will apply your expertise in behavior change as part of a cross-functional team to help Headspace inspire, guide, and support our members to build healthy and happy routines that last a lifetime. Reporting to the Director of Behavioral Science, this individual will collaborate with stakeholders across the company to design and implement evidence-based interventions that delight our members and deliver life-changing benefits. 

The Behavioral Scientist helps guide content, product, service innovation at scale. Headspace inspires, guides, and supports members to maintain and improve their health through mindfulness, and the Behavioral Scientists supports our cross-functional teams with the knowledge and tools they need to change behavior effectively and sustainably. The role involves internal cross-functional collaboration and may include involvement in external research collaborations with academic and enterprise partners. 

Location: This role is open to remote employees in select US states: California, New York, Florida, Georgia, Texas, Maryland + Washington DC, North Carolina and Washington. 

How your skills and passion will come to life at Headspace:

  • Be the voice of behavioral science on a cross-functional product and content team working together to create evidence-based, engaging experiences for our members 
  • Work effectively with external subject matter experts and help to translate their expertise into actionable insights for cross-functional team members 
  • Assist with literature reviews, survey construction, interview design and delivery, and experimental design to inform evidence-based product and content development
  • Facilitate hands-on workshops with a cross-functional team focused on applied behavior science and intervention design 
  • Work with our Service Design team to ensure end-to-end member experiences leverage behavioral science in the right ways at the right moments 
  • Work closely with our Design Research team to understand member needs, goals, and lived experiences to create product features and content that deliver member value and drive outcomes
  • Under the direction of the Senior Behavioral Scientist, partner with cross-functional teams to design and implement quantitative validation studies for new products and features
  • Under the direction of the Senior Behavioral Scientist, contribute to research projects with external collaborators. May include collaboration on peer-reviewed publications and white papers, as needed.
  • Be, in your own right, an authentic expert in principles and mechanisms of behavior change, and apply your knowledge of behavioral science to identify opportunities for content/product innovation
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of academic research and market trends related to mindfulness, stress, and wellbeing
  • Work with the rest of the Science team to translate science and practice into innovative solutions for Headspace members

What you’ve accomplished:

  • Experience creating digital products and/or services as a member of a cross-functional, industry-based team, ideally in digital health and/or wellness settings 
  • Knowledge of evidence-based behavioral science theories and methodologies (ideal candidate has a Master’s Degree (or higher) in psychology, social work, behavioral science, or closely related field)
  • Comfort working in an early- or mid-stage company; readily adaptable to changing market and organizational requirements
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Entrepreneurial work ethic
