About This Role

Flavor and nutritional analyses are an important aspect in understanding the role that the Apeel treatment plays on the overall quality of fruit. Multiple tests using chromatography, mass spectrometry and various sample preparation techniques are used in combination to obtain an overall view of produce from a flavor and nutritional aspect. Applying these analyses over shelf life studies can provide valuable information to consumers and can demonstrate the value of the Apeel treatment.

The project will focus on key nutrients which are extracted from avocados. Sample preparation is vital as care and attention is required to ensure the integrity of these nutrients. Success will be achieved by someone who displays focus and attention to detail. Following sample preparation, gas chromatography with mass spectrometry will be used to analyze and identify these key nutrients in a quantitative manor. Results will be interpreted and distributed amongst a variety of teams at Apeel.

What You’ll Do

• Perform flavor and nutritional studies on fruit using various analytical methods such as gas chromatography and mass spectrometry.
• Extract key nutrients from produce over the course of its shelf life.
• Use gas chromatography with mass spectrometry to selectively detect key nutrients.
• Analyze the data and develop reports of results.
• Expand these techniques to other produce categories. 

What You Bring

• A Chemistry background with an interest in Analytical Sciences
• Ability to learn and use various types of instrument software such as ChemStation and MassHunter
• A positive, can-do attitude
• Working in a collaborative environment across several functions within the company
