Role Overview

We’re seeking a Data Operations Analyst to help strengthen how our business systems data is defined, monitored, and used. This role will support (and eventually own) a lightweight data governance program by defining and documenting key business terms, maintaining a simple data catalog, and ensuring core metrics are well understood and implemented across the organization. This role will also build and maintain operational and data quality reporting on our business systems to ensure our tools and processes are working as expected and producing reliable data.

The ideal candidate has a strong data/SQL foundation and cares deeply about data quality, clarity, and consistency. They also thrive in a cross-functional role, working closely with systems teams, business stakeholders, integration engineers, and data analysts/engineers to drive understanding and alignment.

What You'll Do
  • Data Governance Enablement

    • Work with a cross-functional team to define and document canonical business terms, metrics, and entities

    • Maintain a lightweight data catalog and ensure definitions stay up to date as systems evolve

    • Support alignment across teams on how key data is interpreted and used

    • Help operationalize governance practices so they’re easy to follow and actually adopted

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Work closely with BizTech, Analytics, and business stakeholders to understand data needs

    • Answer questions about system data and metric definitions

    • Contribute to improving documentation and shared understanding of our data ecosystem

  • Data Operations & Reporting

    • Write SQL to build and maintain operational datasets and reports for core business systems and data flows (e.g., Salesforce, Marketo, lead management, order management)

    • Identify data anomalies, inconsistencies, or breaks in expected behavior and help diagnose root causes

    • Partner with business system owners to improve data reliability and observability

    • Monitor data quality and system health through automated checks and recurring reporting

What You Have
  • 5+ years of experience in a data, analytics, business analysis, or similar role

  • Strong SQL skills and comfort working with relational data

  • Experience building reports or datasets from business systems (e.g., CRM, marketing, finance tools)

  • Curiosity about how data flows through systems and identifying issues

  • Clear written communication skills for documenting definitions and processes

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, especially with non-technical teams

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth, and global environment

Bonus Points:

  • Exposure to data quality, data governance, or data cataloging concepts

  • Familiarity with BI tools or analytics engineering workflows (e.g., dbt, Looker, Omni)

  • Experience working in or alongside a BizTech, Ops, or Analytics team.

Compensation

$123,700 - $167,300 (USD)

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
