About Us:

We're on a mission to make it possible for every person, team, and company to be able to tailor their software to solve any problem and take on any challenge. Computers may be our most powerful tools, but most of us can't build or modify the software we use on them every day. At Notion, we want to change this with focus, design, and craft.

We've been working on this together since 2016, and have customers like OpenAI, Toyota, Figma, Ramp, and thousands more on this journey with us. Today, we're growing fast and excited for new teammates to join us who are the best at what they do. We're passionate about building a company as diverse and creative as the millions of people Notion reaches worldwide.

Notion is an in person company, and currently requires its employees to come to the office for two Anchor Days (Mondays & Thursdays) and requests that employees spend the majority of their week in the office (including a third day).

About the Role:

Notion has a customer community unlike any other in software: They’re at the heart of our product, and have helped ignite tremendous growth with now tens of millions of passionate people using Notion daily in their work and personal lives.

As a Community Manager, you’ll engage, nurture, and support Notion’s thriving global Ambassador and Campus Leaders programs, ensuring member experience remains smooth, motivating, and on brand. You’ll be communicating with Ambassadors and Campus Leaders every day, plus translating your insights into action in collaboration with other members of the Community Marketing team—from helping to evolve community strategies to building stronger bridges between community and Notion product teams.

In short, these communities go the extra mile for Notion, and we must go the extra mile for them in return. The ideal candidate has:

  • Hands-on experience in managing online community programs, including stellar written and verbal communication skills to build positive relationships 1:1 and at scale

  • Strong understanding of what motivates and engages online communities

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills

What You’ll Achieve:
  • Own day-to-day relationship-building, regular engagement, and growth of Notion Ambassadors and Campus Leaders, ensuring members understand program expectations, get assistance when needed, and most importantly are excited to participate!

  • Own and build community programming that engages and motivates members to share or dive deeper into Notion

  • Own regular program processes and resources, such as accepting applications, onboarding, developing comms/FAQs, coordinating product beta opportunities, and helping facilitate community-hosted activities

  • Contribute to overarching community strategy at Notion and help evolve program perks, events, and expectations to make these “must join” communities

  • Collaborate with the wider Community Marketing team to help design and execute community activations, swag drops, event series, and help identify opportunities to integrate Notion’s communities into broader marketing campaigns or product launches

  • Collaborate with regional Community Managers to help ensure application processes, new tools/platforms, and other updates are rolled out uniformly for smooth member experiences

Skills You'll Need to Bring:
  • 2-5 years of community management experience with demonstrated ability to build and engage healthy online communities

  • Experience with Slack or Discord platform administration, moderation, and familiarity in additional community management tools (e.g., CommonRoom, Bevy, Airtable, etc.)

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to foster belonging, be a trusted representative to a diverse community, and resolve community issues

  • Self-motivated with excellent project management skills to balance multiple initiatives simultaneously

  • Experience with cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management

Nice to Haves:
  • Strong knowledge and familiarity with Notion, ie: Creating workspaces, databases, etc.

  • Strong knowledge of community health metrics, ie: Program engagement and growth, % participation in events or activations, NPS, etc.

  • Experience coordinating with remote teams across multiple time zones

We hire talented and passionate people from a variety of backgrounds because we want our global employee base to represent the wide diversity of our customers. If you’re excited about a role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every bullet point listed in the job description, we still encourage you to apply. If you’re a builder at heart, share our company values, and enthusiastic about making software toolmaking ubiquitous, we want to hear from you.

What you need to know about the Los Angeles Tech Scene

Los Angeles is a global leader in entertainment, so it’s no surprise that many of the biggest players in streaming, digital media and game development call the city home. But the city boasts plenty of non-entertainment innovation as well, with tech companies spanning verticals like AI, fintech, e-commerce and biotech. With major universities like Caltech, UCLA, USC and the nearby UC Irvine, the city has a steady supply of top-flight tech and engineering talent — not counting the graduates flocking to Los Angeles from across the world to enjoy its beaches, culture and year-round temperate climate.

Key Facts About Los Angeles Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 375,800; 5.5% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Snap, Netflix, SpaceX, Disney, Google
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, adtech, media, software, game development
  • Funding Landscape: $11.6 billion in venture capital funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Strong Ventures, Fifth Wall, Upfront Ventures, Mucker Capital, Kittyhawk Ventures
  • Research Centers and Universities: California Institute of Technology, UCLA, University of Southern California, UC Irvine, Pepperdine, California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy, Center for Quantum Science and Engineering
