Better.com is actively expanding its sales organization and looking for team players eager to work collaboratively and compassionately to close deals.

At the online mortgage company, not only do salespeople help one another hit mutual goals, they also focus on making sales a more “human” experience for their customers.

But don’t take our word for it.

One of their salespeople gave us a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the growing company’s technology, career development opportunities and culture.

What’s something unique about your sales org?

While some sales teams can pit employees against each other for better results, we motivate one another to achieve mutual goals. We still have a healthy dose of competitiveness, but it helps us to push each other to reach goals, rather than ourselves.

Also, I am loving our team’s Zoom happy hours during these times. They help me feel like I am still connected with my team. The company continues to prioritize it’s employees, making sure we’re fulfilled both personally and professionally.

We motivate one other to achieve mutual goals.”

What’s the most valuable sales lesson you’ve learned since joining the company?

Coming from other sales roles, we are almost always taught to take the human element out of sales. Better has helped me connect with borrowers and realize that these are real people making some of the biggest decisions they will have to make: buying their first home or refinancing.

I love that I am on the front lines and can help ease their concerns, answer questions and eventually get them into great positions for their future. It’s so rewarding to know that everything I do is for the benefit and best interest of our customers.

What emerging tools is your team leveraging in their work?

Our proprietary software, Tinman, automates about 70 percent of the mortgage process. The platform is continuously under construction and our engineering team takes real-time feedback from our internal teams into consideration when making adjustments. These tweaks make our customers’ lives better.

Tinman, in combination with other internal tools such as Zoom and Slack, has made the sales process and communication seamless and easy to track.
