When COVID-19 began impacting Los Angeles, CEO Joel Milne knew his company RepairSmith had to do something. According to him, it was simply the right thing to do.

As a full-service, at-home delivery solution for car repair, the company has been able to keep its doors open as an essential business. For other essential workers, necessary car repairs are a financial and potentially health-related burden that can impact their ability to do their jobs. In late March, RepairSmith launched the “No-Contact Car Repair” program to maximize safety between mechanics and the public. As part of the program, they pledged $100,000 in free car repairs to essential workers and those impacted by COVID-19. They’re also offering tips to car owners on how to properly disinfect their cars and prepare vehicles for long-term parking.

“A crisis like this is an opportunity for us to do our part in supporting everyone on the frontlines who are working to keep the community safe, healthy, fed and functioning,” Milne said.

What action have you taken in response to the COVID-19 outbreak?

RepairSmith is deemed an essential business as we deliver car repair and maintenance. We implemented “No-Contact Car Repair” to ensure the utmost safety for our mechanics and the communities they serve.

We also made it a priority to identify opportunities to help the local community in the face of the outbreak. In a matter of days, our team rolled out a number of initiatives in response to COVID-19.

We launched the “No-Contact Car Repair” program to donate $100,000 in free car repairs to help relieve the financial burden for the heroes and victims of the pandemic, including people who have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 or those on the frontlines in the community such as government workers, service workers, delivery drivers, healthcare professionals, employees of grocery stores and pharmacies, and volunteers.

We are actively hiring new certified mechanics as unemployment increases and demand for no-contact car repair grows as well. We’re also ramping up service for fleets to help keep delivery and other service vehicles running safely.

As well, we offer tips for car owners about how to properly clean and disinfect their cars, how to prepare their cars for long-term parking and more.

What has been the result of this action?

Since the launch of our No-Contact Car Repair program in late March, we have received hundreds of applications from people in need. We are actively delivering free services daily across our service areas to individuals, including healthcare workers and frontline gig economy workers, including Lyft, Uber, DoorDash, Instacart and over delivery drivers.

Our goal is to provide both relief and hope for brighter days ahead.”

What inspired you to take this action?

RepairSmith is committed to helping our community. That commitment is stronger than ever as we all face the challenges of COVID-19 together, not just as a business, but as neighbors and human beings. A crisis like this is an opportunity for us to do our part in supporting everyone on the frontlines who are working to keep the community safe, healthy, fed and functioning. Our goal is to provide both relief and hope for brighter days ahead. It’s the right thing to do.
