Legacy has long been a useful obituary site that you’d hope you would never have to use. But the 17 year old company has opened an office in Calabasas focused on changing the way you view and create life stories.

Despite being based in Illinois, Legacy announced last week that new CEO Steve Parrott will spearhead the site’s makeover from their LA office. Parrott joined the company over two years ago and has served as COO and President, focusing on ushering in the website’s new concept.

“We’ve put together this very exciting roadmap of things we can do with the Legacy product,” Parrott said. “ And, as a result, I am now being given the opportunity to make that happen and bring the vision to life.”

The new platform will allow users to create an interactive storyline that will let them autobiographically engage with schools, companies, and institutions to help create a life story. And with the ability to share videos and photos, Legacy hopes to create a well-rounded, reimagined glimpse into a person’s life.

Legacy is headquartered in Evanston, IL and has another office in Naperville, IL. Their new Calabasas location will be the engineering and innovation hub as they take the company in this new direction.

“Building a life story product is a great fit for LA,” Parrott said. “The talent in the Los Angeles marketplace is really relative to this for both technology and creativity.”

Former CEO Stopher Bartol held the position since the company's founding in 1998 and will remain with Legacy as Executive Chairman to the board. As the new visionary for the company, Parrott views the new location and approach as a renaissance for the already established website.

“We’re breaking down all the barriers to how we did business in the past. Our core business is still very solid. It's founded in a tradition of working with newspapers and funeral homes by honoring the families... but we hear it time and time again, ‘I need more. I need a better way to remember.’ Our tagline has always been Where Life Stories Live On — now we’re reinventing what the life story is.“
