As a content delivery network with hundreds of servers in major cities, Santa Monica-based Edgecast Networks carries over 5 percent of the global internet traffic in the world. Since launching in 2006, Edgecast has been pushing forward with one purpose in mind: “make the internet faster for users all over the world,” President James Segil said. Last year, this mission propelled them to be ranked as the fast-growing Internet company by Deloitte.

Their specs: With about 300 on its team, Edgecast serves 4,000 clients worldwide, including Twitter, Pinterest, Hulu and Tumblr. They have raised $74 million to date, including a $54 million Series D round in July.

Their crib: The constantly-expanding Edgecast headquarters serves as their worldwide “mission control” room, where they monitor all traffic from their network. (Check out the picture above!) Over on 2850 Ocean Park Blvd, the Edgecast team is rubbing elbows with neighboring companies like Activision, RED Interactive Agency and The Tennis Channel.

What to expect from Edgecast in 2014: With momentum from the opening of their first abroad office in London this year and the launch their Route product, the fastest DNS product in the industry, just last month, the team isn’t planning on slowing the pace in the new year. “The focus in 2014 will be on launching new web acceleration and security services, further strengthening our rich intellectual property portfolio, aggressively expanding our global network and bolstering our international sales and marketing efforts,” Segil said.
