Summary

RETAIL REINVENTED is searching for candidates who can deliver quality solutions individually and with a team.  The successful candidate will be technical and creatively charged to support RR internal branding requirements and our growing client services, including web development, mobile apps, display ads, identity and special projects.


Key Responsibilities

This unique and demanding role will encompass all aspects of creative design and user experience.  Notwithstanding project-based responsibilities, the role fulfils broad product functions to:

  • Understand our clients brands, their business models, customers, and their vision.
  • Balance key aspects of the business, the development team and the end-user within each design/workflow
  • Use consistent design language across digital products and print media
  • Structure information and data into readable, easy to interpret designs
  • Produce original designs which are professional, engaging, scalable, and responsive
  • Measure user workflows and engagement, and recommend improvements to increase product KPIs
  • Distill constructive feedback on designs into an actionable, prioritised list of improvements

Core Competencies

To support such responsibilities, the ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • A deep understanding of design implementation - and when certain designs are not appropriate
  • A working knowledge of information architecture and editorial copy
  • A confident grasp of front-end technology, its limitations and how it connects with back-end services
  • A will to achieve perfection, balanced with the pragmatism to get all things done well enough
  • An ability to adapt communication to your audience (ie. developers, product managers or business stakeholders)
  • An ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • A proactive, confident, and positive attitude towards assigned workload
  • A deep-rooted desire to see the business flourish with high-quality, consistent and engaging product designs

Workload & Focus


Successful candidates must balance and organise their time across 4 different work streams simultaneously.  These work streams are outlined below with their probable composition towards monthly workload:

Product Development (~75% of time)

This work stream will constantly employ skills in graphic design, UX, and information architecture.  A successful candidate is expected to

  • Understand the business motivation behind various products
  • Understand key audience/user needs, desires and behaviours
  • Devise wireframes to discuss information architecture and validate workflows
  • Design mockups to visualise future product enhancements
  • Communicate with project stakeholders of the reasons why such design components were applied
  • Work with a development team to build approved designs with front-end technologies
  • Promote the design consideration for wide-screen and mobile consumption

Print Media (~20% of time)

Some quarterly/annual projects will be focused on print-based deliverables.  A successful candidate is expected to

  • Translate digital designs into corresponding print designs using consistent design language
  • Design templates used for smaller print projects (ie. stationary, cards, etc.)
  • Manage, oversee and coordinate work with an out-sourced, print production team (Courier) on larger print projects

Branding & Marketing (~5% of time)

There will be some ad-hoc work in relation to branding and marketing.  A successful candidate is expected to

  • Understand the RR brand and our clients brand value to promote consistent branding across any media
  • Work with the business development team during marketing campaigns or large sponsorships
  • Produce branded presentation templates and review assets for sales pitches.

 

 

The Ideal Candidate

Considering the role encompasses many aspects of product development, the successful candidate will have sufficient experience to successfully deliver value in a timely manner.  This includes:

Proficient (4+ years) commercial experience of

  • Visual design, specifically using Adobe Creative Suite for
    • Image manipulation
    • Vector illustration
  • Interface design, using tools similar to MockFlow, Wirefy or JumpChart for
    • Wire-frames and mockups
    • Information architecture
    • Usability and accessibility
  • Web authoring with front-end technologies, including
    • 4+ years of HTML/CSS (and HTML5/CSS3)
    • 3+ years of cross-browser, cross-device designs
    • 3+ years of dynamic applications using AJAX
    • 1+ years of using the Bootstrap design framework
    • 1+ years of responsive designs for optimal device consumption
  • UX design, including workflows for
    • User registration
    • Search and discovery
    • Analytics and insights
    • Transactional interfaces

Sufficient (1-2 years) commercial experience of

  • UX design, including workflows for
    • User registration
    • Search and discovery
    • Analytics and insights
  • Print media, and using relevant print techniques
    • Typography

Working knowledge of 

  • PHP Frameworks (Zend, Symfony)
  • Agile product development (Scrum, Kanban)
  • Video production
