The Visual Designer is responsible for an assigned project’s “look and feel” and is expected to uphold the very best in design excellence. Projects will be focused for JDate and ChristianMingle, but also span across other properties owned by Spark Networks. Strong communication, typography, iconography, visual graphic for interactive screens, programming, and flash animation skills are requirements.

This position will work very closely with the other key players, and should become very familiar with the tone, emotion and attitude being conveyed by the client. He/she will work closely with the rest of the core team to brainstorm, articulate, and present creative-art-design functional support for product requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ability to take UI UX wireframes and apply compelling visual design following brand (JDate, ChristianMingle) design standards.

• Knowledge of interaction design elements for external sites and internal tools for support.

• Lead visual design for marketing and new product concepts.

• Routine deliverables may include (but not limited to):

  • Development and implementation of workable templates and navigational tools from design concepts through final production

  • Print design / layout for advertisements

  • Graphical support features

  • Display Media (banner ads & Landing Pages)

  • Affiliate and sponsorship relations creative design

  • Email creative design and development requests

• Assist in the conceptual development and design of full website interfaces

• Interpret design elements from communications with customers, product management, business, and software engineering.

• Be able to articulate how and why the visual design upholds the brand, is fresh and relevant, and meets product requirements and direction.

• Work with product team to construct visual mock-ups for new projects

• Collaborate with Production Artist to ensure cut creative assets are delivered for development.

• Ensure excellence from creative conceptualization through development

• Grow junior visual designers in their skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A solid understanding of user-centered design principles and standards, excellent visual design skills, technical know-how of HTML and CSS3

• A solid understanding of direct response design principles for acquisition and retention.

• A background in game mechanics and interaction models

• Produce appropriate sketches, navigation models, highly-polished look and feel drawings, illustrations, diagrams, etc. in a very iterative environment.

• Mastery of visual design, color, layout, typography, iconography, and usability.

• A proven track record producing consistent clean visual design

• Ability to interpret business and product ideas and translate those into presentable graphical documents, as well as produce and express your own ideas in a format that is easy to understand and moves ideas forward from concept to launch.

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and very strong communication skills

• Application Knowledge:

  • Experience and knowledge in Adobe Photoshop

  • Hand code in HTML

  • Strong understanding of Flash, Illustrator, and CSS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with HTML5 & CSS3

• Experience and knowledge in JavaScript, including JQuery or similar JavaScript frameworks a plus

• Understanding of ASP.NET a plus

• Experienced VisualStudio.net and SourceSafe are a plus

• B.A., B.S., or B.F.A. preferred, but not required
