The Senior Safety Engineer will be responsible for the safety life cycle activities for the Transponics System including but not limited to test procedures, safety requirements, hazard identification, risk evaluation, hazard management, safety approval process, safety case. The candidate must have the ability to take the lead on a safety critical program, ability to determine and specify all design requirements (hardware and software) for a system safety program, as well as support the software safety case in a convincing manner. 

 

The Transponics team is responsible for the delivery of all hardware, controls, software, and power electronics in Hyperloop One system. These include microelectronics, antennas, sensors, data acquisition & processing, communications & navigation, onboard networks and buses, electric propulsion, batteries, and other electronics.

 

The Senior Transponics Safety Engineer must be able to work independently, occasionally without close support. Flexibility, relationship building, communication skills and time management are essential to success in this position.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct/facilitate PHA, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis with the Transponics team
  • To be in charge of producing and maintaining the Transponics Safety Management Plan
  • Determine and specify safety related design requirements
  • To co-ordinate the timely production of the necessary design safety documentation, especially the relevant safety cases and related documentation for approval milestones
  • To participate and co-ordinate as applicable the safety reviews during the Project Lifecycle
  • Management of the corrective actions required in case of non-conformity of deviations from the safety targets
  • Review the design with a potential impact on the safety performances
  • To be responsible for the independent verification and validation of the supplied system and the safety integrity of the technical solution, with respect to Safety requirements
  • Interface with Independent Safety Assessors, vendors, consultants


Job Qualifications;

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, or related discipline with 8+ years of applicable experience (6+ years if MS or 3+ years if PhD)
  • Experience with FMEA/FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis, Hazard Analysis
  • Autonomous vehicles, Positive Train Control or aviation/aerospace industry experience
  • Development, certification and commercialization of new products is strongly desired 
  • Electrical safety experience and familiarity with IEEE Std 80
  • Experience following one or more of this Safety Standards: IEC 61508, MIL-STD-882, DO-178B/C, EN 50128, EN 50129
  • Experience with Formal Methods is strongly desired
  • Good oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate highly technical subjects succinctly to other team members and top management.
  • Ability to work independently, within a team, and with other groups
  • Strategic Focus/Vision to translate vision and strategy into a clear, actionable goals
  • Must be willing and able to travel, some global travel
